What does it mean to consecrate yourself to Mary? I ask this because I consecrated myself to Mary and I am not sure what i did?

You put yourself under her protection as your patron. You ask for her blessings, and that she does what she needs to do to make you more pleasing to Christ. Basically, all consecration is ultimately going to be giving yourself to God-- but you’re finding someone who you know is pleasing to God, and asking to enter into a special relationship with that person.

So, what is the thing that separates us from God? Nine times out of ten, it’s likely to stem from some sort of self-love, right? So by denying ourselves, and casting ourselves in the role of a servant-- we try to dispossess ourselves of what we have, and make ourselves entirely dependent, in a spiritual way, on the graciousness and generosity of God. So rather than performing your actions and saying your prayers in and of yourself, you try and use Mary as a filter? if that makes sense? so that she can eliminate whatever impurities are present in our prayers and actions, and thus present something that is more perfect and pleasing to God than what we’re capable of presenting to him on our own.

But did I promise anything?because I’m getting anxious about what if I promise something and I don’t know what I promised?

How exactly did you consecrate yourself to Mary?
Usually when we do this, it is a fairly lengthy process that takes either 9 days (using the St. Maximilian Kolbe method) or 33 days (using either St. Louis de Montfort’s method or the “33 Days to Morning Glory” method).

It is not something you just accidentally do, or do in one minute.

Im scrupulous so I have anxiety and worry to much, I just said a consecration prayer.

I think if you just did that, then you can safely just say that you put yourself under her protection and so forth as midori said.

The longer consecrations involve promises that we give her everything we do - our actions, indulgences we earn, ourselves, etc. But they take so long to do that no one could possibly do that and not know what they had promised.

I have expressed on other threads on here that I think a lot of people say a prayer consecrating themselves to Mary and aren’t quite sure what it means; such prayers were very popular lately because of the Fatima anniversary. If you just said such a little prayer, it is nothing to worry about. Mary will protect and help you and give you her grace. She knows what you meant.

Oh so I did not promise anything, because after I said I was like “ wait what if I promised something and now i have to do it for the rest of my life.”

You might say a little Hail Mary to her every day if you think of it. But if you miss doing it for some reason, she’s not going to hold that against you.
These consecrations don’t bind under pain of sin or anything like that.

Sport for asking too many questions but so I didn’t promise anything big? Or I don’t have to do something special?

No, you don’t have to do anything spectacular. Mary is happy to meet you where you are.
Just do what feels right to you.
Mary is pleased with anything you sincerely offer her, no matter how small.

Oh ok thank you, so I just say one Hail Mary a day? I already say three hail Mary’s twice a day anyway

Then you’re fine. No need to do extra.
Mary doesn’t want you to worry about this at all.
She would prefer to help you worry less.

Oh I was just worried because I thought it was the same as consecrated virginity, and I thought I had promised to stay a virgin the rest of my life. My anxiety causes me to overworry, I must sound silly.

I did this awhile ago. I think it essentially gives Mary your permission to redistribute any indulgences you might receive to others who need them. This would be part of the promise.

You’d have to make that promise with full knowledge of what you are promising. The OP didn’t quite understand. In a case like that, Mary will just protect the person and not hold them to some promise that they weren’t even sure what they were promising.

Ah, gotcha. I thought you might have done a 33-Day Consecration, a la St. Louis de Montfort, or something like that, but had forgotten the details of what it involved.

There are also standalone prayers–
My Queen and my Mother,
I give myself entirely to you;
and to show my devotion to you,
I consecrate to you this day my eyes,
my ears, my mouth, my heart,
my whole being without reserve.
Wherefore, good Mother,
as I am your own,
keep me, guard me,
as your property and possession.
Amen.
is one popular one-- and so you can see that it touches on the high points of what the other ones do in a more in-depth manner.
