Does it mean to give credit to God for one’s accomplishments? If not, then what does it mean?

Thank you.

Well that’s certainly part of it.

For me it also includes thanks and praise of God for many other things - for the very fact of life, for all of creation, for sending Jesus to save us, for the other good things He gives us (not just our accomplishments, but the love of family and friends and things like that).

We give glory to God through how we live. If we live by his standards and not those of the world around us, others see and many recognize the goodness of God.

IMO, it means dedicating your life to Christ, and yes, giving Him credit for your achievements. It means doing everything in His name, privately. Working for human recognition is vain-glorious, and futile.

So true. We can spend much time on this earth chasing illusions…at least long enough to discover that’s what they are - illusions. Dedicating your life to Christ means we are giving God some “room” to glorify Himself in us also.

A strange thing about the word “glory” : I started looking seriously at this word about 15 years ago or so and I don’t remember any one dictionary not running off a bunch of synonyms when attempting to describe the word “glory”.

Here are some of the “definitions:”
  • splendour
  • great honor
  • majesty
  • exalted renown
  • honorable fame
  • adoring praise and thanksgiving
  • resplendent majesty, beauty, or magnificence
… one could fill a thread with synonyms. It doesn’t seem that any one word can adequately describe “glory”- especially as it pertains to God. It would seem that God’s glory is all of the above and so much more beyond that. Maybe that’s why we have such a problem defining it…because all true glory is in/due God and can only find its full meaning in Him :hmmm:

Anybody recall the final words in conclusion of the Eucharistic prayers ?..

“Through Him,
with Him,
in Him,
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
all glory and honor is yours,
almighty Father
,
for ever and ever.
Amen.”
