What does it mean when we say "Jesus decended into Hell"?

I’m trying to explain to a fellow Catholic what we mean in the Apostles Creed that “Jesus descended into Hell”. I’m having a hard time explaining. Can someone please help me to put it in words? Thank you. God bless you.
