Why can’t I stop sinning?
What do I need to do to rid myself of
thoughts or words
actions or attitudes
of sin?

All people living on Earth sin. What you should do is try your very hardest not to commit mortal sins, or make a particular sin a habit. When and if you do commit mortal sin, it’s important that you go to Confession as soon as possible. If you have made a sin a habit, especially if it’s mortal, than pray very hard every day for the grace to be free of that habit. The Lord’s Prayer and the Rosary are particularly powerful.

I have always thought, to completely stop sinning, we would need to tie our hands behind our back and spend our entire life in a dark room under the bed,
Is that a practical solution ? Definitely not !
We are on this earth to live. , to. Learn, to make our families happy ,healthy & educated in all aspects of living , to discover your own inner being, your strengths & weakness,
You will fail in life, and you will get back up and be a better person for the experience,
Try not to become obsessed with your own failings, a wall in the family home painted brilliant White, will not always stay brilliant White,in time their will be bumps& scratches,
And dirty marks, your soul is a bit like that, one of the benefits of being a person of faith,
Is that you have an opportunity to wipe those scratches and marks off,
Go in Peace and serve The Lord,,

Many sins start out with small weaknesses or ideas. We dismiss them and go on, then bang the big sin hits us. Things I have done to change my tendency to sin include:

Paying attention to smaller ideas and checking them. If I note they happen under certain circumstances, like driving and getting the urge to cuss at someone, I make a choice about acting differently. For example: I used to be very impatient about driving behind buses and having to pass them. I decided to make myself stay behind buses, first for two blocks then for 5 and then for 10. By the time I did that I no longer had the problem with impatience about this issue. I changed my thinking and my habits to something better. I also learned I got where I was wanting to go just as fast if not faster, by staying behind the bus. Go figure.

So look at habits in thinking and actions that you can change with deliberation. You will change your behavior doing this. Also, try to figure out what is behind the sin. You know, if you yell all the time, why are you so annoyed in the first place? Is it pride? Is it jealousy? Once you figure out the ROOT of the sin you can address it better.

Dying is the one sure way to stop sinning. BUT BUT BUT God does not want us to just give up and die. Sinning is a learning experience…if we know we are sinners, we are on our way to become saints. We know the difference between right and wrong. We know we have disappointed God and it hurts…that is the experience. Our overcoming a sin makes us closer to God and we feel it. We feel New, and it is because God wants us to be a New Creation. We sin we feel bad, we get forgiveness because we hurt…we grow…We are human so we sin again…we feel bad ,we once again offended the one who loved us into existence…we feel really bad, we get forgiveness …we feel renewed…Our focus becomes clearer…we know we are sinners and we know God loves us…We DO OUR BEST to make it thru this world by knowing who God is ,Praying relentlessly , and receiving Jesus in the sacraments, we now have his graces…Leave the rest to Him. He knows our frailties and our hearts…our weaknesses and our strengths, after all He is the one that created us. All we can do is our best, and love ,love love…That is Gods Great Command. Sin made be defined as one turning one’s back on God…But Love is turning to our neighbors and doing good for their sake not ours. Try It…you’ll like it !!

Sir
Just got to tell you, to tie your hands and hide ina dark room…just might be the biggest sin outside of outright denying God Himself. God did not created us so we should tie ourselves up and do nothing…talk about sins of omission. It is better to sin and seek forgiveness and grow in love then high it under a bushel

I am thinking that you have no relationship with your guardian angel. Your guardian angel will testify on you judgement day as your daily witness, and it is their job to assist us with our prayer life, protect from harm - in accordance to the will of GOD, and help us to avoid the “near temptation of sin”.
Everyday, as part of my morning offering I ask my guardian angel to protect me from harm and to pray on my behalf the rosary and the Chaplet of Divine Mercy continuously throughout the day for my special intentions. Then I pray 7 Glory Be’s on behalf of my guardian angel. And when I find myself slipping into thoughts that can lead to sin, I immeditely pray the prayer against satan - St. Michael the Archangel -. You have to have angelic assitance to fight sin, we cannot go it alone against the “snares and temptations of the devil”.
Memorize the St. Michael Prayer, and pray it every time you find yourself slipping and ask your guardian angel for help every day. What a wonderful testimony for your angel to inform JESUS that each and every day you were solliciting their help against sin.

Confession. This is a great place to not only cleanse you, but to get the grace you need to not fail when tempted in the future.

"I firmly resolve, WITH THE HELP OF YOUR GRACE, to sin no more and to be prudent.

easy … spend your time in scripture study. No not reading the Bible, studying the Bible. You see the reason your having all this trouble is in all likelihood, what you watch or How your spending your time. But understand … you were a sinner when Christ accepted you. IF you truly believe that Christ died for your sins, and was raised on the third day, you will be saved, not in your time … in his. Best advise I can give you is to come closer and get to KNOW Him. If you do this and keep doing this, God will do the rest. I did not change me, God changed me. The more I studied the greater the changes. Truth be told, when you SEE God moving in your life it is a Beautiful and Wonderful thing, change IS inevitable … as scripture plainly says.

Matthew 6:33 New American Standard Bible (NASB)

33 But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.

Romans 8:30 New American Standard Bible (NASB)

30 and these whom He predestined, He also called; and these whom He called, He also justified; and these whom He justified, He also glorified.

like it says, God’s in control … let go and let God!

My sins serve to keep me humble. I shudder to think how proud I’d be if i were sinless, and wouldn’t that be the greatest sin of all?? 🤷

It’s good to be humble and not proud. However, sins do not serve you in a good way. We sin because we are deceived by the devil. The devil lies to us.

Prayer, meditiation, spiritual reading, humility, the Sacraments…

Here are some things that I believe are very helpful:

Unless thou hold thyself diligently in the fear of the Lord, thy house shall quickly be overthrown. (Sirach 27:4)

Jesus to St. Bridget: “… there is on earth no remedy against sin so efficacious as the devout remembrance of My Passion, with right faith and true repentance.”

St. Paul of the Cross: “Begin in the morning, before leaving your room, by meditating, for a quarter of an hour, on the Passion of our Redeemer, and you will see that, all will go well with you, and that you will live far removed from sin.”

Bl. Dom Columba Marmion (speaking of compunction of heart - a fruit of devotion to the Passion of Our Lord): "Let us now suppose in this soul no longer an isolated act of repentance, but the habitual state of contrition: it is almost impossible for this soul to fall anew into a deliberate sin. It is established in a disposition which, essentially, makes it repulse sin. The spirit of compunction is precisely the sense of contrition reigning in an abiding manner in the soul. It constitutes the soul in the habitual state of hatred against sin; by the interior movements that it provokes, it is of sovereign efficacy in preserving the soul from temptation. Between the spirit of compunction and sin, there is irreducible incompatibility: compunction of heart renders the soul firm in its horror of evil and love of God. Thus St. Bernard more than once uses the term “compunction” instead of “perfection.” So much does the sense of compunction, when it is real, keep one from offending God.”

God bless.

Fear offending God, love Him with all your heart and detest your sins, keep away from near occasions of sin, pray a lot and do lots of spiritual reading instead of engaging in worldly amusements, pray your rosary daily for conversion, etc…

In order to stop sinning one needs a) grace, b) a strong will to stop sinning, c) elbow grease and a plan, d) to know oneself, e) determination and resiliency.

It’s possible to stop sinning, especially commiting mortal sins, but it won’t happen overnight.

Maybe death is the only way to stop sinning. Until that time, practice, practice, practice. Crowd out the bad thoughts, words and actions with good thoughts, words and actions. Take care.

To stop sinning you need to have strong faith in God, no confidence at all in yourself and 100% confidence in God and His saving help. God bless you.

Yes, this is all good advice. Now I need to take it to soul and act on it. the op
