. . . to be Catholic?

This is basic and not a trick question. There’s no right or wrong answer. In fact, I’m interested in getting a variety of answers to this vague question.

What do Catholics believe to be the Truth?

Nicean Creed for starters…👍

Communion with the Bishop of Rome(successor of St. Peter)…

Holy Sacrifice of the Mass…

Sacramental life of the Church…

Liturgical Worship…

Apostles’ Creed…

When all fails go back to the Nicean Creed…🙂

Did I forget to mention:

We believe in one God,
the Father, the Almighty,
maker of heaven and earth,
of all that is, seen and unseen.
We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ,
the only Son of God,
eternally begotten of the Father,
God from God, Light from Light,
true God from true God,
begotten, not made,
of one Being with the Father.
Through him all things were made.
For us and for our salvation
he came down from heaven:
by the power of the Holy Spirit
he became incarnate from the Virgin Mary,
and was made man.
For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate;
he suffered death and was buried.
On the third day he rose again
in accordance with the Scriptures;
he ascended into heaven
and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead,
and his kingdom will have no end.
We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life,
who proceeds from the Father and the Son.
With the Father and the Son he is worshiped and glorified.
He has spoken through the Prophets.
We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church.
We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins.
We look for the resurrection of the dead,
and the life of the world to come. Amen.

We believe that too. How does that make you any different than us?

Wel Blue the difference in the Nicene Creed or the Apsotles Creed we as Catholics say and believe vs yoy may actually vary. When we say Catholic we mean the one true Catholic Church and you might say and mean catholic with a lower case c.

As a Catholic we believe and confess that we are the “One” “True” “Apostilic” “Catholic” Church.

Our Catholic Church was actually founded by Jesus over 2000 years ago, vesus a Lutheran Church founded by Luther or any other church/

Oh and we believe in the real presence of Christ in the eucharist.

Thats the short end of it anyway

may I ask what faith you belong to?

trinitarian-believing protestants
We’re trinitarian believing Catholics. In fact the word Trinity which is not found in the Bible was emphasized during the Council of Nicea (where the creed that you use came from) in 325 A.D. That would be about 1200 years before protestantism. This was to counter Arianism which would have destroyed Christianity had it not been for the Council of Bishops guided by the Holy Spirit to maintain the Church that Jesus Christ founded. Just a couple of facts. God Bless…🙂

And I completely agree with you! Our church believes we were all at one time Catholic and we share the same history, up until the Reformation anyways. 👍

. . . to be Catholic?
Fundamentally, and as a basic requirement, a valid baptism makes one Catholic (in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit).
What do Catholics believe to be the Truth?
Catholics believe there is an objective Truth. Some of this Truth has been revealed to humans via Jesus, and the Holy Spirit speaking through the prophets and the Church, namely in the inspired Ecumenical Councils and ex cathedra proclamations of the various popes.

Theologically speaking, to be truly Catholic, one must be theologically (maybe intellectually is a better word) in Communion with the bishop of Rome, the successor of Peter, the holder of the keys.

And why would or should the reformation change history since that was the Church that Christ founded. How is it possible to “change” the original Church founded by Christ?

So if your Church begun to teach things after the Reformation that are contrary to things taught before the Reformation, then your Church (or the Church of our ancestors) must have been teaching error at some stage, yes? Does this mean that the objective Truth has changed?
