What does Jesus Mean in these verses

What does he mean in Matthew 5:29 - Matthew 5:30 and other verses like these. As in Mark 9:45 and other like it. What exactly is the meaning?
 
Well, maybe we could tell you if you could tell us what the verses actually say. 🤷
 
Matthew 5:29-30 (New International Version)

29.If your right eye causes you to sin, gouge it out and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to be thrown into hell. 30.And if your right hand causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to go into hell.

Mark 9:45 (New International Version)

45.And if your foot causes you to sin, cut it off. It is better for you to enter life crippled than to have two feet and be thrown into hell.
 
I think Jesus is using hyperbole here because in another place in the Gospels Jesus says that sin comes from the heart. But please don’t get me wrong, Jesus wants us to avoid sin and the occasions of sin. (only my opinion…or else we’d have alot of one eyed, one handed, and one footed christians out there).
 
Jesus is speaking of our relationship with the things of this world that lead us to sin and cause us to sin if we are not strong enough to resist it. If you have a friend, for example, who doesn’t see anything wrong with {you name it}, and you continue to keep that friendship, you are placing yourself in proximity to sin, and on any given day you might have weakness to resist it, and poof! there you are in sin.

So Jesus is expressing using hyperbole the end results of such associations. The message to us is, knowing where we might end up as a result of those relationships, it is better to sever them (lose the friend) than end up in sin (lose eternal life).

You certainly said it better than I did.
 
It means you can’t blame your sins on your eyes, hands, etc., it is your fault.
He is NOT saying to punish yourself by cutting off whatever body part caused the
sin, He is saying you must take the blame yourself, and stop sinning at all cost.

He is saying if there is something that is causing you to sin, a tempatation you can’t resist, get rid of that temptation…Like if you are hooked on internet porn, throw your computer away…an example…Get rid of the temptation…
