While praying the rosary with Mother Angelica on EWTN, I noticed that the crucifix that is pictured on TV before the first mystery has the initials NDSMD above the corpus. What do these letters mean?

The initials are usually found on a St. Benedict medal. The inscription reads, in full, “CSSML—NDSMD” and stands for the Latin phrases: “Crux sacra sit mihi lux! Non draco sit mihi dux!” (“May the holy cross be my light! May the dragon never be my overlord!”).
