Hello
As a Catholic, I have always tried to explain this doctrine but I seem to misunderstand each time. My complicated understanding is this:
Salvation by faith alone (Protestant): Have faith in Christ and you can be sure of your salvation.
Salvation by faith + good works (Catholic): You can be almost certain of your salvation if you believe yourself to be in a state of grace (i.e. you follow and support Church teaching) but if you commit a mortal sin and do not repent, then damnation awaits.
I always have trouble misunderstanding this doctrine. Could someone please clarify if I am right, or if I am missing something?
God Bless.
