SSPX are initials that stand for the Society of St. Pius X, a schismatic priestly society that has rejected the reforms of the Second Vatican Council. The group went into schism in 1988 when its founder, the late Archbishop Marcel Lefebvre, ordained four bishops without the approval of Pope John Paul II.
