What does the Catechism say about the Church

Especially about the role and mission of the Church in the world. Is there any acknowledgement or discusion of past problems (like when JPII apologized about x,y,z)? Basically, is it spelled out somewhere the limits of the authority in the Church (faith and morals vs. administration/governence).
