To whom this may concern,
I have grown up in a military town my whole life as well as been raised in a strong Catholic home. I have been involved in ROTC while in high school and considered going to a military academy when I graduated, but after much prayer and talking with priests in my area it wasn’t what God had in store for me at the time. I have always grown up however with the mentality of a Navy SEAL. Like someday being a dad, I just knew that I was going to become one. It seems though that I have not been able to find anything on the Catholic Church’s standpoint on choosing to become a Navy SEAL. There are many radicals that have told me that joining the military at all is a sin, because God says “Thou shall not kill” and if you join the military, you are directly or indirectly aiding in the killing of his children. I just simply do not believe that. Nonetheless, would going through BUDs training and becoming a Navy SEAL be a sin against God and a denouncement of my faith? Thank you for your time. God Bless.
