What does the Church say about dating without an annulment?

My father was recently divorced this last June and has been dating a woman ever since his divorce was final. I know that the Church teaches that one cannot be re-married before the first marriage has been given an anullment. It would only make sence then that his marriage is still valid until the church says otherwise. He is pursuing an anullment but he still shouldn’t be pursuing any romantic relationship without recieving the anullment. Although I am confident that this is Church teaching, he has told me that priests have told him otherwise. Can you elaborate on the Church’s teaching, and give any writings or teachings from Popes or from the CCC saying that this is wrong? Is there any situation where dating without an anullment, and the marriage in question was in the Catholic church, would be ok? Thanks for your help!
