My son and his wife have just experienced the loss of an unborn child in the second month of pregnancy. Under these circumstances, what is the Catholic teaching about Baptism of the unborn? From my early Catholic education, I seem to recall discussion of Baptism of “Intent”; where the intention is to Baptize but life is taken prior to Baptism of Water. Is this correct? Does it apply in this case? If it does not apply, what happens to the child’s soul?
