What does the Church teach about Santa Claus?

As a rookie Catholic (crossed the Tiber on March 1, 2015) and a former evangelical, I have noticed quite a contrast on how Santa Claus is approached. Evangelicals tend to avoid Santa Claus for reasons varying from don’t lie to kids to promoting commercialism of Christmas to taking the focus off the real meaning of Christmas. Catholics tend to embrace and promote Santa Claus. I also live in the Philippines (an 80% Catholic country). Santa is very dominant here. Please share with me any thoughts, comments or even the official Catholic position on this. Thank you, Richard:D
