What does the Church teach on tithing?

The bible say we should pay tithe. I am a born catholic and have never come accross that subject being taught in the church up to now in the country that I live. What I would like to know is ’ what is our church’s stunce on this matter and what must be done about it or the explanation that I may don’t know concerning this.’
