What does the pope mean by this

In this context the Holy Father announced his plans to meet on October 15 with young Italian children who are preparing for their First Communion, to give them some personal instruction on the Eucharist. “This will be a fitting and beautiful occasion to repeat the essential role that the sacrament of the Eucharist plays in the formation and spiritual growth of children,” the Pope said.

Concluding his remarks, the Holy Father entrusted the meeting to the Virgin Mary, “that she may teach us to always love Jesus more, through the constant meditation on His Word and the adoration of His Eucharistic presence, and that she may assist us in helping young generations to discover the ‘precious pearl’ of the Eucharist, which gives true and full meaning to life.”

I guess my question really is, how does Mary teach us and assist us from heaven? My first thought is that it is her example in scripture that teaches us and it is by her intercession that she assists us. Am I understanding this correctly?

By the way, I love what he says though. Meditation on his word and adoration of the Eucharist which is central to Christian life. Beautiful.

Like our own human mothers, she reminds us to always do as we ought. In every Mairan apparition her message for us is basically the same:

John 2:5 [Jesus’] mother said to the servers, “Do whatever he tells you.”
 
In the Communion of Saints we are all interconnected through supernatural bonds. We believe, for example, that our guardian angels assist us silently in many ways throughout life to do good and avoid evil. We believe that all those in heaven, the known saints as well as the unknown, pray for us and assist us here on earth, just as we pray for those in purgatory.

Most especially Mary, as the Mother of the Lord, whom He gave to us to be our mother as well, plays a role in helping us here on earth. She does this through her own prayers as well as supernatural helps of which we may not even be aware.

I cannot outline a “structure” for the communion of saints. Even on earth, a mother often helps her children in ways which they do not realize until much later in life, if at all. Needless to say, our mother in heaven is close to her Son and helps us in many ways.

Yes, I think you were. You mentioned her prayers and intercessions, which sounds pretty straightforward yet fairly simple. I have an idea that the reality of these things is far more powerful than we can realize untill we get to heaven. I see the communion of saints and the various intercessions, prayers, and helps that are communicated back and forth, as analogous to the vast array of electromagnetic waves–for radio, TV, cell phones, short wave, etc–that we are surrounded by and bombarded with daily and yet are not aware of them.

I think you’ve got most of it. All throughout the Bible, Mary is at Jesus’ side, following him. We can look to her for patience and understanding.

Mary is an intercessor for us in Heaven according to the Davidic Tradition. We can look to her for prayers on our behalf.

As previously mentioned, all of Mary’s recognized appearances repeat the same message. “This is my Son, do what He tells you.”

I like what somebody said about Mary, that she was the perfect Jewish mother, “Have I got a Son for you!”
