What did St. Francis de sales mean by "To bear abasement and reproach is the touchstone of humility, and, at the same time, of true virtue. For this, one becomes conformed to Jesus Christ, who is true model of solid virtues.
 
It means to resist the temptation of responding to insult and denigration.
Give the other cheek in other words.

I am bit dumb, should it not be ‘to bear abasement and not reproach’

No they are 2 different words but are almost synonyms, also perhaps one should read the original language the Saint used. But they are both words that mean when someone is insulted, put down (with words) and so on.
