After Consecration, the assembly recites the phrase, “I am not worthy to receive You, but only say the word and I shall be healed”. What does it mean when we say this? Why do we proclaim that we are not worthy, and then go to receive the Eucharist anyway?

Thank you.

Hi Alane,

We AREN’T worthy to receive the Lord’s Body and Blood. But He generously gives Himself to us in this way nevertheless. As the result of such generosity, we humbly express our gratitude and homage.
