What does total consecration to Mary mean?

What does total consecration to Mary mean? What does it involve? Thank you.
 
It is a wonderful spirituality that was taught by Saint Louis Marie de Montfort and subsequently re-presented by Saint Maximilian Kolbe. Saint John Paul II beautifully exemplified this consecration in his life. He made the consecration as a young man and lived it so remarkably.

I made the consecration according to the writings and teachings of Saint Louis de Montfort in 1980, after I became Catholic. Across more than 35 years, it has been such a gift and an enrichment to me and my life. It is the rock foundation of my spiritual life; as Saint Louis de Montfort teaches, we most quickly and surely come to Jesus through Mary.

That is the best site for ease of use for the Consecration. (There is a part on the site which is a heresy, against Vat. II, and nothing to do with Our Lady, so just to be aware of that). But the pages for the Devotion are excellent and easy to follow.
 
“True Devotion to Mary” by St. Louis Marie de Montfort, and “33 Days to Morning Glory” by Father Michael Gaitley are great gifts of the Holy Spirit to the Church.

There are tremendous blessings awaiting those who make the consecration to Our Blessed Mother.

And, it is recommended to be made every year.

Thank you all. A quick question - is this something one does by themselves, or does a priest need to be involved?
 
It’s not a bloody devotion! Remember when Jesus Christ said, “As you do so to the little one’s, you do so to Me?” Do you know what this means? If you convert a little one, or a victim soul, Christ counts it as converting Him. Do you know how this is done? “Be it done unto me according to thy will.”

Heresy against Vatican II, that’s a contradiction.

Frater: Thank you so much for alerting me that there was a segment of that website that opposes Vatican II. I had no idea. I have only used that page for ease of access to the digital versions of the primary source documents. I made my consecration long ago…over 35 years now…but I often go back to re-read passages of True Devotion or Secret of Mary. I found those things I was needing to access well arranged, well presented, and easy to use and thought it a useful resource. But I never went further into the website than what I was needing.

I certainly won’t recommend the site further, though, given the position they hold. How tragic. May God enlighten them and save them from their error.

I appreciate so much the alert to something of which I was completely unaware.

Hello. I am not a friar, as my name suggests. The name initially was a little joke as I only meant to stay on here for a small while and thought it wouldn’t hurt (I’d change the username if I could). I do let people know if they comment.

I don’t think it hurts to promote the site for the Consecration because it is such an amazing resource for this - the results of printing out the preparatory days is also excellent as this makes it easier than following online - as long as one points out the danger to others of the heretical element to the website. It bothers me, because many so-called 'Traditionalists" try to incorporate Our Lady into their own “fortress mentality” (to quote a journalist) - those who aren’t adaptable to growth/change - by portraying her as being part of their armoury, and this bothers me, because this is the same as using her for their own ends. These heretics are the one’s who, obstinately, will not say: “Let what you have said be done unto me” - the perfect entrance opening up for the ‘Word Made Flesh’, who, in the same Spirit, went on to pray in troubled times: “Nevertheless, let your will be done, not mine.” So again, the Consecration pages are fine, but please ensure that anyone who uses those pages are aware of the lurking wolf present on that site. If they are not firm in their faith, then it might well be a good thing to avoid leading them there, as suggested.
