In the *Glory Be * and some of the prayers of the Liturgy of the Hours I hear the phrase “World without end”. I presume this refers to the coming of a new heaven and new earth. Is it incorrect threfore to refer to the “end of the world”. Would “end of time” be more appropriate?

Dear G,

“World without end” is an idiom which means forever. In Latin, “saecula saeculorum” means “ages of ages” or forever. In the current edition of the Liturgy of the Hours it is translated “and will be for ages unending.”
