What edition of the Roman Missal are we currently using?

We are currently using the third edition of the Roman Missal 2002 [amended 2008]

This is the standard edition which all the various translations, such as the current English translation and the new improved English translation, are based upon.

Not sure who you mean by “we,” but in most of the English-speaking world we are using a translation of the original (first edition) Novus Ordo missal from around 1970. I believe work was underway in the late 80s or 90s to translate the second edition into English, but it got bogged down over translation philosophies, and the whole thing was scrapped since the third edition was due out soon. The English translation of the third edition has had its own calamatous history, but it is now set to go into use in North America and (I think) the British Isles starting in Advent. Much of South Africa has been using a version of this translation since 2008, and I think Australia started using most or all of it a few months ago.

Apologies, you are correct; the current(soon to be superseded here in Britain and Ireland) english translation is based on the first edition of the Roman Missal 1970. However the third edition of the Roman Missal 2002 [amended 2008] is still the typical edition of the Roman Missal and it is therefore the ‘current’ edition.

In most of the anglophone world it is the first edition, 1970.

From the first weekend in September, in England and Wales we’ll celebrate Mass according to the revised English translation of the Ordinary (but not the Propers) to get the people used to their parts.

The third edition will not come “into force” until the First Sunday of Advent, 2011.
