What education do you choose for your kids?

The main issue is if you send your kids out for school to pay attention what’s going on. Don’t just assume that teachers are there to do a good job teaching and everything will be fine.

Your kids could be told everything they are going to hell for praying to Mary to being hateful bigots for not towing the academic progressive line on things like gay “marriage” and/or climate change.

Yes, I agree. If we do end up needing to send her to school, getting to know her teachers and knowing just what she’s being taught will be essential.

I feel a little bit uncomfortable with the schools giving out ‘most pious’ awards though. I’ve never heard of that in all my years of being connected with Catholic education. Piety has a deep inner aspect that’s not available to be judged and your son might be getting the message that appearing pious is the most important thing. That’s the downfall of cult attitudes like the Duggars had. Appearing pious means very little and could prevent a person dealing openly with their inner flaws and temptations. I’d try not to put too much emphasis on that award really. Being holy and good require humble self examination without pride.

I do wish you the best though. It is very tough I know.

Yeah, I wasn’t going to say anything, but that sounds bizarre to me too. As if piety is something that can be objectively measured and ranked by an onlooker. I could see maybe giving awards for a special “act of piety” in order to exemplify and encourage acts of piety among the kids, but “most pious”? Weird.

Of course, certain acts of piety can be observed and recognized, but many others are completely internalized aren’t observed. Overall piety can’t really be quantified and ranked and the nature of piety makes it an inappropriate attribute for children to be competing for.

Currently, we have one in a Luthern pre-school. We plan to send both to public school when they start kindergarden. Our residential public school is a great community center, and has many great resources. I would like to say we lucked out on this, but the honest answer is that we pay for this community center and it’s determined by our property we chose to live at. My oldest and dearest friend (we meet in first grade) lived seven blocks away from us. This put her child in a different school district which did not have a great community support. SEVEN BLOCKS!!! Well, she sold her beautiful home and now lives ten blocks south of us. Her child now attends the elementary school rated #15th in the state! Technically, we are eligible to take our girls to that school, but I don’t want to get too far from my neighborhood community (which is awsome). I find it disturbing that public school system has created such a separation of classes, but I must confess that I’m making the sacrifices to benifit from such governing. I even made the sacrifice of selling my home to favor my husbands home when we married; my home had 3x’s the yard, 2 more bedrooms, and 1 more living area (but the school was poorly rated, and the community was elderly).

We have very sucessful friends who homeschool, and I admire them. I remember from a charisms seminar that we should persue what gives us energy. Many of the homeschool parents I witness are energized in their mission. I can’t help but recomend a change for those who are not ignited by the Holy Spirit to explore other avenues. Sometimes I think we are also called to have our children be the light of the world to other children in public schools. However, with incidents like Sandy Hook Elementary, liberal ideologies, and such! it is good to see the home school children.

Now, I was thinking about another education that is brain washing our society - The Work Place. Yes, the work place is another ongoing source of education that bombards our families and communities. My husband and BIL were complaining that they had to spen too much time in seminars to make it comfortable for those attracted by same-sex preferences in the work place. My BIL wrote in his annual review that he got the message, and needed the time wasted on such seminars to get actual work done. Now they need a “security clearance” which was presented to me as a badge of high moral standards to keep their job . The same year the companies CEO was retiring and training his prodogies. Well, his new replacement had to resign/was fired due to an affair with a subordinate. Concurrently, my husbands co-workers were having an affair (same grade level) to take over the department. It was revealed on Facebook that these two were having an affair by the husbands wife. My husband anticipated that these two would loose their security clearence. Even my husbands clients (government) assumed this was grounds for loosing security because of possible blackmailing. Well, like a ripple, they were all called to training regarding this, and everyone had to accept that this behavior (adultry) was permissible as long as it was not between boss and subordinate. Well, my husband has a lot of overtime … Shouldn’t I worry that these work education seminars is brainwashing my husband? It’s all over corporate America … Tolerance … I don’t know if these education seminars are worth the overtime. I am not the leader of the household, so I can only pray that a true education would be available for the families of corporations. I wonder if the spouces who suffered from a work culture who promotes adultry, homosexuality, and such sued the employer if these education seminars may end or at least change for the better for families.
