What else could St. Therese want of me?

I have developed a recent devotion to St. Therese. Since around this past September/October I have been praying novenas to her on and off. Most of them were relating to a guy I was friends with. I had noticed my feelings for him were growing and have just felt a strong desire to ask for her interference. Around January he started dating this girl and they still are dating. I have come to terms with it, and accept that this is the girl he most likely going to end up with. Ever since that time I have been seeing roses almost everywhere I go, but it seems they have grown closer as a couple and it doesn’t look like things are ending between them. Him and I have remained friends, which is good, we were friends before, no need for us to stop being friends now. About one or two months ago I was doing my bedtime prayers and I asked St. Therese to stop with the roses, I had finally come to terms that him and this girl were not going to break up, and put this situation in God’s hands. Well ever since then, I have had these very strange dreams with my friend surrounded by roses. I don’t want to speculate anything, and I definitely don’t want to be superstitious about this. I don’t understand what else St. Therese could be trying to tell me, and what else is it that she wants of me? Oh, I also feel the need to add that ever since him and this girl started dating and I have been working on myself and trying to imitate Therese’ “little way” each day.

Saints cannot bring two people together. That is a matter of the two people’s own free will.

Their primary goal is to lead on to life everlasting, with or without the relationship you sought.

You and I are in a similar situation! I have this crush on a guy and I’ve had the urge to pray to St. Therese about it…You see I think I would stop thinking about him for a while. Distance yourself from him and just pray to God. I think the dreams also kind of signify that you think about him and all this. Start doing your own thing and pick up on some activities you might enjoy; keep yourself busy. I think St. Therese is clearly interceding for you. You don’t really know if this guy is truly going to be with the girl until they are actually married. However the feelings you have for this guy can be leading you to holiness. Ask God about this and surrender to Jesus and ask him to reveal what is going on. Who knows maybe even the scriptures can help you out. If God wants you to be with this guy, something will work out, even if it’s later in life. There are people who can pray over you about this and get some sort of vision in regards to this issue and they can help you out, however they’re at charismatic retreats. I’d really like to keep in touch with you…message me if you want.

You may well be reading too much into the signs you see. I know it’s hard when you have fallen for someone and they don’t reciprocate, but the object of your affections has clearly made a different choice right now. Thinking about it all the time won’t change that, unfortunately. I think all of us who are a little (or a lot) older have been through this at some point in their lives, and it can get a bit all-consuming if you let it.

For now, it would be better for you to be open to meeting another nice guy whom you might like to date. 🙂

Imitating Therese’s “little way” is a good way! She has touched the hearts of so many.

How good that you were not bitter and upset regarding your friend that chose another girl. That is a grace.

Depends on your age and how you approach those prayers.
St. Therese, the Lord, Our Lady, none of them are celestial vending machines.
You see roses everywhere because you are looking for them everywhere.
You are infatuated with this guy and he’s seeing someone else. Move on!
Pray for God’s will to be done. Pray for St. Therese to help you mold your life and help you to grow in holiness. A way more effective request in the long run. As GEddie said, she’s not a matchmaker. 🤷
God bless.

My impression on reading this is that perhaps St. Therese wants to encourage you to keep surrendering to God’s will for that relationship situation, to keep persevering in being happy for him and for using this trial to draw closer to God by the little way.

I have a slightly different take on this.

You may not have ended with the someone you have feelings for, but the roses may be a sign that St. Therese and with her, the celestial court, is trying to encourage you on your walk towards heaven. You may not get all you want in this life, but they want to meet you someday in heaven.

🙂

Thank you for the honest feedback! I’ve definitely been trying to do things to get my mind off of it, whether it’s volunteering, spending time with my friends/family, reading a book, going to the gym, etc. We don’t talk as much anymore, but I’ve definitely have been trying to back off so I can clear my head. When I found out he had a girlfriend, the first thing I thought of was to definitely do things to improve myself. I’ve always been a person who has sought after love instead of trying to give love. I immediately looked at this as an opportunity to to try to give back and do things for others for their benefit instead of my own. For the record, these past few months I’ve definitely have viewed this whole situation as a big learning experience. I’ve been to a charismatic retreat before and really enjoyed it. I’ll have to look some up in my area, and I would love to keep in touch! You can always message me at any time! 🙂

I never really thought of that! 🙂 I’ve tried to do things to get my mind off of it and remind myself that being bitter is not going to solve anything. Thank you for your response!

That’s very beautiful! I’ve tried to look at this whole situation as a learning experience and have used it to figure out what God wants of me.

Thank you! I try to surrender every single day!

I’m 26, I’m not sure how that’s relevant though. For the record, I said I’m trying not to be superstitious about this situation. I’m aware God is not “a vending machine” or a “matchmaker”; I’m not asking to be with this guy. I’m not trying to look for these roses and I don’t think I’m infatuated; I think I’m just confused because I’m doing my best to discern God’s will for me with this situation, but I feel like there’s a new message he wants Therese to deliver to me each day. I’m trying my best to get some clarity with what that message is.

I’m definitely trying not to read too much into the signs. There were days where I was becoming obsessive about them, and have had to stop myself and remind myself that that’s what the devil wants, is for me to be obsessive. I don’t want to be that girl. I’ve being doing things to get my mind off of it, and I’ve definitely have been trying to be open to meeting other guys! I appreciate your honest feedback! 🙂

I never said Saints could bring two people together. I’m not asking Therese to be a matchmaker for me; I’m asking for her intercession to determine God’s will for me.

Perhaps the roses are a gift to you, not to tell you you’ll end up with this guy, but for accepting the situation and letting it go. Roses don’t have to be romantic.

Well then I’m lost as to why you posted.
What does Saint Theresa want of you, you ask?
I don’t think she’s asking anything of you.
You’re praying the Novenas. What are you asking for, specifically?
Something other than what you originally stated?

Saints don’t tend to make demands on people.

Clare, if there was an award on this forum for most sensible poster, I would vote for you.

Absolutely agree with the above, including the gentle rebuke.

I never said St. Therese is making demands on me. I already got the answers I needed from other people on this forum, so I don’t feel the need to explain anything else to you. Have a blessed day!
