So God sent His Son to save us from Himself?
John of Damascus (Exposition of the Orthodox Faith):

Since our Lord Jesus Christ was without sin (for He committed no sin, He Who took away the sin of the world, nor was there any deceit found in His mouth) He was not subject to death, since death came into the world through sin. He dies, therefore, because He took on Himself death on our behalf, and He makes Himself an offering to the Father for our sakes. For we had sinned against Him, and it was meet that He should receive the ransom for us, and that we should thus be delivered from the condemnation. God forbid that the blood of the Lord should have been offered to the tyrant. (III.27)

St. John Chrysostom, Homily 2 on Galatians

Ver. 20. And that life which I now live in the flesh, I live in faith, the faith which is in the Son of God.

The foregoing, says he, relates to our spiritual life, but this life of sense too, if considered, will be found owing to my faith in Christ. For as regards the former Dispensation and Law, I had incurred the severest punishment, and had long ago perished, for all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God. Romans 3:23 And we, who lay under sentence, have been liberated by Christ, for all of us are dead, if not in fact, at least by sentence; and He has delivered us from the expected blow. When the Law had accused, and God condemned us, Christ came, and by giving Himself up to death, rescued us all from death. So that the life which I now live in the flesh, I live in faith. Had not this been, nothing could have averted a destruction as general as that which took place at the flood, but His advent arrested the wrath of God, and caused us to live by faith. That such is his meaning appears from what follows. After saying, that the life which I now live in the flesh, I live in faith, he adds,

Ver. 20. In the Son of God, Who loved me, and gave Himself up for me.

Hi, D!
…Scriptures are correct… but not the way you think.

God’s Wrath means that God rejects evil and sin is evil. God’s requires man to be pure. Yet man cannot be pure, no matter how “good” or “well intended” his actions might seem–unless they are done in God they are subject to personal pride (ego/psyche) which makes them void and insufficient; hence, man is bound to find himself pitted against God’s rejection of sin/evil.

God’s Wrath (determination to subject evil/sin into exile) is Tempered (fully excised) as Christ takes our place on the Cross and Purchases our Freedom from sin–it could well be versed as: ‘God saves man from God’ (though the reality is that man is Saved by God from eternal damnation by Sacrificing His Son in our stead).

Maran atha!

I believe we are saved from a number of things - including merely natural happiness (paradise, bosom of A) which still doesn’t fully satisfy what human nature is capable of, ie Divinisation.

Mind you, if one doesn’t realise the joy of Divinisation I suppose Paradise could be mistaken as heaven .
