"…John Gunn - C.A.G’s National Coordinator commented - “Many of our members complained to us about the very public dissenting remarks of the Bishop, which we thoroughly investigated. So there are no misunderstandings, in charity, we have written to him and to Cardinal Cormac Murphy O’Connor to no avail. Protest always is our last resort. This Bishop has literally told millions of Britains that if they wish to contracept, then that is okay with him, even though the teaching Magisterium which he is duty bound by and is well aware of, says otherwise. As faithful Catholics, we will hinder error and not stand by and watch our faith being scandalously undermined publicly, especially by a person in an office whose duty it is to defend the faith.”

C.A.G - is an independent Catholic organisation. It has been established to defend Catholic Truth nationally in the United Kingdom through action both inside and outside of the Church. Membership is open to all mainstream orthodox Catholics who are fully obedient to the teaching Magisterium with the Pope at its head and all Bishops obedient to the Pope…"

Unfortunately, we need watchdog groups to keep publically dissenting clergy in line. 😦

It used to be the Bishop keeping us in line. Amazing!!!

There are days when my head feels like it belongs to the kid in the Exorcist – back and forth, back and forth. :bigyikes:

Cardinal Murphy O’connor probably isn’t used to hearing from angry catholics.

Faithful catholics, in England? LOL 🙂 😛

Anyone know who the Bishop in question is?

P.S. I didn’t hear of any of his remarks, I think that John Gunns comment of millions of Britains was a bit stretched.

Here’s a snip from the transcript:

interviewed on BBC
Television 20th April 2005
BBC Interviewer – “And according to
many in the Catholic Church, Bishops
must be able to come up with their
own answers to the problems in their
own diocese.
This Bishop wants, for example, to
ordain some married men, his own
way of coping with the crisis in the
Church, another is respecting the decision
of Catholics who disobey on
issues such as birth control.”

Bishop Hollis – “It’s got to be a conscientious
decision, taken prayerfully and
all these sorts of things, but at the end
of the day, if that’s what they feel they
have to do, then that is a decision I
have got to respect.”

 (my addition)

BBC Interviewer – “It’s very interesting,
even though it goes against the formal
teaching of the Church.”

Bishop Hollis – “I think so, because they
have made that decision on very good
grounds. It is not a decision that is
taken lightly.”

Yes, feelings rule. Such a statement from a Shepherd of the Church sky rockets the cringe factor–how embarrassing, how disgraceful. This Bishop would do himself and his flock well to take a sabbatical from his duties and memorize the CCC sections dealing with the basics of developing an informed and well informed conscience.

I am rather sure that God will not take their decision lightly, not will He take the Bishop’s response lightly. Both appear to meet the definition of grave matter.

I am perfectly willing to leave the status of his eternal life to God – I would however, like to hear something about the balance of his life here on earth from the Cardinal Primate of England…

I wouldn’t expect to hear any statements that condemn Bishop Hollis too harshly. Cardinal Murphy O’connor is what one would probably call progressive, and will tred very carefully on the matter, he certainly wont want to make any people who have or do use contraception feel unwelcome in church.

If enough flack flies – he’ll say something. I have not picked this up in MSM over in England so I don’t know how much of an uproar is being made.

Yeah I havn’t heard a thing, I didn’t even know about what Bishop Hollis said. I really do think that not many people heard about it as we have been lead to believe.
