This might seem like a very basic question, but I haven’t gotten a straight answer out of anyone when asking it, so I figured I’d give this forum a shot.

What exactly is an apologist?

I hear this phrase being used daily on Catholic radio, and really have no idea what is meant by the term.

Please explain – looking forwarding to hearing the answer!

An apologist is someone who explains or defends a particular position. It is not restricted to Catholicism; someone who explains and defends a politician’s policy would be an apologist for that policy. In the case of Catholic Answers’ apologists, we explain and defend the Catholic faith.

Apologetics, as a Christian discipline, is a subset of theology that seeks to explain or defend doctrine through appeals to natural reason.
