Is it considered prideful to post highlights from my game? When does bring proud become sin?

I think there is a difference between celebrating and sharing hard-earned successes vs. the sin of pride. Most of us naturally feel that cringe when sharing of good news turns to bragging.

To me the difference is where we put ourselves comparative to God and others, and whether we retain humility, always aware we are all innately flawed. It also has to do with whether we see equivalent humanity in others.

I do not think it is sinful to celebrate and share a sport victory, school scholarship, weight loss or promotion within reasonable context. That context includes appreciation and respect for the sacrifices of parents, coaches, teammates and opponents…gratitude for the opportunity.

Pride has to do with you thinking you know better than God. Like satan rebelling because he thought he knew better than God.

All sin stems from the vice of pride.

Make a habit of thanking God for your talent and enjoy your success. But by the same token, regularly examine your conscience for failings and seek out forgiveness through the Sacrament of Penance. That keeps us grounded.

Yes, there is a difference between “I got a promotion at work,” and “I got a promotion because I am so much smarter than Mary.”

Okay, here is my question. If you were posting highlights of a teammate, would you do it with the same style and enthusiasm? That’s my general yardstick. Humility doesn’t ask that you downplay your accomplishments but that you not falsely elevate them just because they are yours (or claim that they are yours alone, and not God’s as well).

A useful way to gauge is to reflect on your pattern of thinking. If an accomplishment brings a sense of happiness, it is good. If an accomplishment brings a sense of superiority, it is evil.

That is a very good way of thinking of it, @TK421. I am out of likes. ❤️
