What exactly is idolatry?

I know the literal explanation of idolatry is to literally worship someone other than God (like, satan, buddha, etc.). I also have recalled that gluttony is a form of idolaty (2 corinthians?) but i’m struggling with how this is idolatry. At what point is it considered that I idolize something like money, food, etc.? What does this look like? Can you give some examples?
