I was going over some stuff when I came across this sin. to my understanding sodomy meant all unnatural sexual acts that do not lead to the creation of life. That would include the obvious things I guess. I read somewhere that said that the word refers to such things as sex with animals too. I guess that would fall under the category of unnatural sexual acts that do not lead to the creation of life. What is the churches view on this?

God bless

I always thought sodomy was the typical act done between male homosexuals - I didn’t realize it had a wider application than that.

Sex between human beings and animals is called “Beastiality,” I think.

yeah that is what I read too but I also read that that bestiality is covered under the sin of sodomy it was used to describe it. I mean if sodomy actually means unnatural sexual acts that do not lead to procreation than it fits i guess. I was wondering if that is the churches view on it to.

Where are you reading this? I’m trying to figure out the context of the application.

Not to be picky, but how in the world does this fall under Liturgy and Sacraments?. On second thought, don’t answer that.

oh i didn’t even think about that… woops. is there a way to move it to the proper place?

I’m not sure I’d get too worked up on the terminology. The key point is to recognize that a particular action is sinful, whether or not it might be properly labeled as “sodomy” per se.

Generally anal or oral sex with ejaculation in the wrong place to be productive. Also violating someone anally with like a broom or mop or broom handle seems to fall under this term.

yeah I asked my priest and he said any sexual act that is not intended for the creation of new life. basically perversions of the gift to bring life as use for personal pleasure, so it includes all those nasty things.

Yeah I looked it up in my dictionary.
All those were listed.
I believe that oral is still considered procreative as long as the act is not completed that way.
And like with anything else
in moderation. Not going to far with it.
Still keeping the respect for the wife.
It is between the married couple.
It is a form of kissing.
It is not for everybody, kind of like someone who likes to kiss toes.
But with anal (no pun intended) that is different.

One thing to keep in mind is that sodomy (anal sex) is also sinful between a man and a woman. Which is to say, sodomy does not apply only to two men having sex. I recall many years ago when a coworker was suddenly horrified to discover this fact. Although he and his wife were VERY religious (Protestant “holy rollers”), it was apparent that they had been having anal sex for some time.

Oh, I see. As far as I know, the Catholic Church understands sodomy to be anal sex. At least, whenever I see it used in Church documents, that seems to be the intended meaning.
Hi all!! : ) i was wondering sir, which documents exactly those were/are as i’ve been searching in vatican.va for months now and find nothing so far… care to help? : ) ty

That is not sodomy.

While masturbation is a grave sin it is certainly NOT sodomy.
Oral sex (no orgasm) with the husband completing the sex act inside the wife (vagina) is not even a sin never mind sodomy.

Sodomy is anal sex by a male on a female or an animal. The only wider definition would include anal sex by someone using an implement of some kind.

Sodomy is anal sex only.

The literal definition of sodomy is anal intercourse, bestiality is also condemned. However, I find it most disturbing that the bible does not condemn pedophilia. Pedophilia is certainly just as bad as bestiality and far worse than sodomy. I do believe that pedophilia and bestiality are always bad and sodomy is bad in most situations. However, the bible condemns sodomy in all cases including between wife and husband.

The actions that constitute pedophilia are condemned - for example the rape of unmarried women is condemned, and homosexuality is condemned, which protects both boys and girls.
