What exactly is meant by the term “remnant church”? And can you give me an example? I heard the term this past weekend and am curious.

711 “Behold, I am doing a new thing.” 78 Two prophetic lines were to develop, one leading to the expectation of the Messiah, the other pointing to the announcement of a new Spirit. They converge in the small Remnant, the people of the poor, who await in hope the “consolation of Israel” and “the redemption of Jerusalem.” 79
Notes:
78 Isa 43:19.
79 Cf. Zeph 2:3; Lk 2:25, 38.
See also CCC 709–716.**1081 ** The divine blessings were made manifest in astonishing and saving events: the birth of Isaac, the escape from Egypt (Passover and Exodus), the gift of the promised land, the election of David, the presence of God in the Temple, the purifying exile, and return of a “small remnant.” The Law, the Prophets, and the Psalms, interwoven in the liturgy of the Chosen People, recall these divine blessings and at the same time respond to them with blessings of praise and thanksgiving.
And yet they left behind no historical record of their existence, how convenient. It seems that Fundamentalists and Mormons use the same playbook.I’ve also heard it used by Fundamentalist type churches who believe that the early church fell into apostacy very quickly.
