What exactly is this?

hey i have a brief question -
one of my friends is a fraterna (i think thats how you spell it). I know its something like opus dei, since it is for lay people. but im wondering - who founded it? what is it exactly? and what is it’s ‘statement’ as such?

edit: the questions are in relation to the ‘fraternas.’

It was founded by St. Josemaria Escriva. It is for everyone including non-Catholics. It’s not a lay movement or religious order but it is a private prelature. It is approved by the Vatican. I recomend reading Opus Dei by John L. Allen Jr. You can check out their website opusdei.org/.

hold up - yeah, i know what Opus Dei is…(sorry if i didnt make myself clear)
but i was wondering what -
Fraterna’s are. I know this denomination began in South America. and apparantly there founder is still alive. but i would like more info on what they do etc etc.
