What fashions would you like to see go or stay out of style?

Let’s see–UGGs, Crocs, and capris (Sorry girls, they look like pants that have been left in the dryer too long.)

What else? Oh, yeah! Seriously unnatural hair colors and bleached blond with the roots showing ah la Madonna. I hope shoulder pads never come back in style.

My 21 year old daughter hates gauchos. She’s a chip off the old block (same argument as the capris.) But she also says they make womens’ buttocks look strange. I don’t want my buttocks to look strange.

I must be the odd ball here (well, nothing new there I suppose  ), but I actually like my husband’s feet. 🙂 He refuses to wear sandals or anything like that (so all you menfeets haters are safe!!), but I think he has great feet and legs for a man.

Underwear in the open. As for the rest, simply stuff that’s too ugly.

Have to agree with the extreme low rider pants. They do not flatter any* body*! Even if you are a size smaller than zero it only points out that you have no shape. If you are bigger than a zero it magnifies whatever shape you have into something so unattractive.

I actually just saw an ad somewhere for some sort of low rider jean that was cut to LOOK like the girl’s thong was poking out the top but it was all one piece of material. VERY inappropriate and looked gross. And I am not a prude, I tend to like some “sexy” styles that some would find immodest…but this crossed WAY over any type of line!
Well, those of us who are prudes and believe in saving “sexy” for one’s husband would like to see ugly, ugly tunics over spandex bottoms go far away; they are shapeless and unflattering.

I’m probably going to get flamed for this, but:
  1. Uggs. (Especially Uggs with leggings and a tunic sweater. That 80s look needs to die.) At least here in Indiana Uggs make some sense with the weather being as cold as it is. I used to see girls in Mississippi wearing them all the time and it NEVER snows there.
DH and I joke that they’re called Uggs because that’s the first thing you say to yourself when you see them. “Ugggh!” 😛
  1. Crocs. Plastic shoes do not look good on anyone over the age of 2. Yes, I know they are comfortable. Yes, I know I’m going to get 200 posts from people who just LOVE their Crocs. But at the very least, can we not wear them in public? Wear 'em all you want in the house.
Confession: I wear leggings/yoga pants around the house. 😃 I know full well no one wants to see me in those out in public, but they ARE darn comfortable.

(Please, let’s keep this a fun thread and don’t take it personally if you wear something that someone doesn’t like this. I remember a “fashion thread” or two that went in a bad direction. We are not trying to be the fashion police or anything…don’t get mad!)
👍 👍 👍

Uggs: The name says it all. And Crocs…brrr.

I wear leggings and yoga pants, too – to go running, to teach dance class, and to do yoga. 😛

I love the old traditions, like the kind of clothing found on the oldest preserved bodies in various parts of the world:
Knee-length or thereabouts baggy woven animal fiber tunics in a nice bright-natural toned gingham, tartan or other check or stripe of any kind, with a leather belt at the waistline. A cape or cloak, pinned at the shoulders or tied at the waist, striped, in a bright contrasting color. Leggings not as tight as Spandex but form-fitted, for warmth and fredom of movement. Boots made of strips of warm material wrapped around the foot to the upper shin and tied in place with leather. Sandals or wooden shoes for outdoor wear. The traditional Highland costume is this outfit, with some stylized substitutions, and was originally modified from the ancient style to facilitate industrial work. Any picture of OT or NT Jewish people has some form of this look as well. Mongols, Vikings, Gauls, some Plains Indians, it was a cool look wherever cold winds blew for millennia. I think industrialization made it impossible a little at a time everywhere.

I’m with shannyk on the when-did-sleeves-become-illegal sort of thing. Never did sleeveless, not even as a small child.

Agree with lizaanne on the slightly low-cut jeans, though. I’m short waisted and until low-cut jeans came in I was very tired of my belt buckle grinding into the bottom of my rib cage when I sat down.

Can’t abide toe rings.

Detest thongs (footwear, called flip-flops in the UK) as streetwear for either gender but it’s worse on girls in office wear and who might otherwise look presentable. Round the house and at the beach, fine, but not on the way to work. Oh, yes, the best look of all is black ones coupled with skin-tight skinny-leg stretch black jeans that are two inches too long.

Hankerchief hemlines on girls heading into the office (especially when teamed with thongs!). Leave 'em for after-5 or the under-5s!

I also don’t get the current trend in handbag design. Every handbag I see is oversized and with half-a-dozen totally non-functional extra straps, buckles, bits of chain, snaphooks, shackles and padlocks and other bits of hardware all over it, usually set off nicely by totally incongruous frilled trim or ruching or crazy patches in some totally jarring material/colour/pattern … I need a cup of tea, a Bex and a good lie down after just walking past a bag shop. I have to wonder what the designers were popping, sniffing, snorting, shooting, inhaling or imbibing at the time …

:rotfl: I absolutely could NOT agree more with this!!! LOL!!!

I have to disagree with the poster who thinks menfeet are gross.

I love to see men in sandals with chinos and a crisp buttondown. Think early-MacGyver 😉

A couple years ago I had to specify to my students, that when they gave their big presentations, I would downgrade them if I saw upper or lower cleavage. When I was in college, I don’t think we even imagined lower cleavage!

I also hate strappy tank tops with bra straps showing. Don’t they make strapless bras anymore? These, paired with short shorts, seem to be the harbinger of Spring around here. Flattering to very few. . .
I get the job of taking care of my dh’s feet, clipping, filing, removing callouses and all those gross bits, so his feet always look nice. I noticed a woman the other day whose cracked, heavily calloused heels had torn a hole in her pantyhose so it is not just the men.

Used to be we only saw that ‘lower cleavage’ when the plumber was working under your sink. It was gross then, it is still gross now, especially since they aren’t even bending over.

Last year, at the dedication Mass for the teachers at the Catholic schools in town, one teacher showed up in tiny short shorts with two skin tight spaghetti strap tank tops (you know one over the other with the bottom one longer than the top one) and bra straps showing. This is a look that needs to go.

Ugg boots - now I like my Ugg boots but I only wear them at home as slippers. I have short ones (ankle height) and long ones. BTW, they are called ugg boots because they are ugly. It is short for ugly boot. My DIL doesn’t like me wearing them at all. She is very fashion conscious. She disliked them so much that last Christmas she gave me a pair of down slippers, sort of like wrapping a down pillow around your feet. They are really lovely and warm but very difficult to walk in. I did the old schloop schloop walk in them and wound up with terrible foot and leg cramps so I had to stop wearing them. You would never forget and go out in them, like I have on a couple of occasions with my ugg boots. I’m always terribly embarrassed when I realise it.

Leggings are really a no-no in my book. No one looks good in them.

Low-rider pants that always look like they’re falling off. Saw a pair on this young girl the other day. They were so low that I thought we were going to see all her private bits. It was also obvious that she wasn’t wearing any panties.

And those dresses that look like slips…

and women and young girls dressing like hookers, skin tight clothes, short short skirts, everything on display. I attended a ‘lady’s luncheon’ with all the ladies who worked for the company I worked for years ago. Half the party was ahead of us while we were walking to the next pub. I overheard some guys walking the other way comment on the ‘pack of hookers’ they had just passed. I relayed it to them and they took it as a compliment.

lederhosen - I had an economics professor at college who occasionally wore lederhosen to class. Not a good look but I suppose college professors are expected to be eccentric.

Multiple piercings, especially nose, lip or eyebrow rings or studs and tattoos. Saw a woman who had gotten a lovely little rose bud on her shoulderblade - many years ago. (she was wearing a low cut spaghetti strap tank top). It was no longer lovely and little but stretched, faded and misshapen.

The issue is not with baggy pants. Most guys can pull off the baggy look very well…love cargoes on my hubby:thumbsup:. The issue is with the pants SO baggy that the guys have to sort of shuffle to walk because the waistband is balancing precariously on the middle part of their butt, the crotch is down to their knees, and you can see more than half of their underwear.**
Ahh… I see…so it’s not the size of the pants… it’s how ya wear 'em! XD

Strapless wedding gowns.
Clothing designed for teen-age girls which makes them look like street walkers in training.

Oh brides – here are three great outfits for a wedding:
Old-time Western wedding costme: Your best outfit, whatever it might be. Fave colors include blue and green for happiness and health in your new life.
Old-time Eastern wedding costume: A nice red ensemble that covers you up. There are many kinds. You might want to look into the subject. Red is considered a happy color in Asia.
Victorian wedding costume: Invented in early 19th Century, popularized by Victoria herself, what majority of Western brides wore until the last few years, this consists of a white or ivory dress with either a full skirt or a loosely-pleated skirt, floor length, with sleeves as long as you can wear them and still use your hands, full shoulders, a waistband of some kind according to the waistline of the day, generally at least one layer of lace over at least part of the outfit, matching ballet-style slippers, a long lace veil that covers the face and runs to the hemline in back and may even form a train down the aisle, and a blue ribbon somewhere to represent high hopes. White flowers in hair optional.
I don’t get the short, sleeveless wedding dress concept. Nor the headband.

as for tattoos i have quite a few, some people love them, some hate them. i like them and my wife loves them so it works for me. if you do get a tattoo get a black and grey tattoo, colored tattoos look sloppy and cartoonish when they fade, black and grey still looks good.

.
my wife would rather be crushed under a 3,000 pound boulder than do that.

ME TOO! My husbands feet are so weird looking. His toes are so long they look like fingers. He can pinch with them! My kids all have long toes too. My toes are so short he says they look like Cabbage Patch Dolls feet. Short stubby toes all sewed together.HMM:mad:
Our oldest daughter can roll dice with her toes. I have a strange family!

That’s what he calls them too! He is very proud of his toes, so are the kids. I don’t get it…I’m okay with my little sausage toes so you all can have your monkey toes:D
