What fashions would you like to see go or stay out of style?

Cajun Girl - your name reminded me of another one, by no fault of your own (SORRY!!!)

Although I HATE HATE HATE the T-shirts that the staff at Cajun restaurants such as Joe’s Crab Shack & Landry’s wear!!! They are horribly offensive!!!
Well, just to show you how Cajun I am, I didn’t even know that Joe’s Crab Shack was considered Cajun food!

But I agree that you can be too Cajun. Ever seen a Christmas tree decorated with red beans and rice?

Leggins, I need leggins to get out of my sight…

I mean, they CAN look good in someone with a semi-toned body, but still, to make them look better a person needs like tons of accesories, and I don’t know… I just don’t dig them that much

Underwear in the open. …
I once got to assist at a mock job interview where business people came in to help teach high school kids how to do it. At the end the boy I was assigned to was told to tell the class (that was observing it all) how he thought he did. He said that I was so pleasent that he was sure it was his. Then I got to tell the class what I was thinking. I said “of course I was polite. It’s not my place to tell him how to dress to come to a job interview. But there is no way I’ll hire him. I want my people to come in to work looking decent. I will not put a slob on my payroll.” The class went “Ooooooo.” The boy was imberessed 😊

Okay… Here I go!

I think that tiny bikinis on a woman or a man are disgusting. Last summer I saw a fat girl sitting on a blanket. Her blubber hung over the lower part so you couldn’t actually see the bottoms. I could have gone a whole life time without seeing that.

I dislike the tops that are so low cut and fitted to the breast that you can’t wear anything under them. Really, it’s disgusting to see three quarters of a saggy breast. On young girls, it makes them look like streetwalkers.

I don’t like the see through tops and the colored bras. Even if they wear two see through shirts at the same time, the shirts are still see through.

I hate the baggy pants on men. I’ve seen young men in the wife beater shirts with the pants worn just below the buttocks. I think they should be arrested for indecent exposure.

I also don’t like the silky athletic shorts that some men wear unless the shorts are double lined.

I hate the new trend in Olympic track and field apparel. Silky spandex on a male runner is absolutely disgusting.

I don’t like tube tops. They were not attractive in the late 70’s and
early 80’s, and they aren’t attractive now. I’ve had the misfortune to see too many women with breasts the size of a cows milk sack wearing tube tops. Not a pretty sight.

Obnoxious sayings on t-shirts are…well, they’re obnoxious.

Lingerie in public is reprehensible. That goes for slip dresses too.
If you can’t tell if an item of clothing is supposed to be worn to bed or worn in public, please don’t wear it.

Cotton sweat pants are okay around the house, but not in public. Really, nobody is interested in seeing where you bulge.

I also hate the pants that have holes in them. I am not interested in seeing what you do or don’t have on under your jeans.😊

All of these fashions are made more atrocious where I live because 60% of the people are overweight.

I hope I didn’t make anyone angry, but I find the above fashions just gross me out.

And now you will remember it for the rest of your life!

Some clothes only look good when the right person wears them. And with that said, I think there should be a law that restrains people like that fat lady from making themselves look more unattractive than they are. (No offense to fat people but I think with this as an example, I hope you’ll all see my point.)

Bikinis period are just wrong IMO. It’s one of those things that’s tacky on one hand and immodest on the other. I’ve been thinking about this, and I’m not sure if there’s any kind of female swimwear that’s truly modest. I guest the one-piece suits are better than the 2, but they’re still pretty bad lol. Last time I went to the beach I wore a halter top with built-in bra and shorts. I felt that was pretty modest, but even still, when soaking wet…LOL. Yeah, it’s tough.

Did you offer them an apple so they would recognize that they were not dressed? Man, I love some of the cracks by Bl John XXIII

**Tankini w/board shorts (so they dry fast).

One piece with board shorts.

One piece with a long sarong/wrap skirt until you go into the water.

They do make more modest swimwear…just don’t make it easy to find.**
**
A print is better than a solid color for hiding stuff…**

While some fashions may be unflattering, people are free to wear what they want. Heaven knows, I have some clothes that are beyond the pale.

The one thing that bothers me, is women with tattoos, often many of them. Not a pretty sight.

Men and boys over seven or eight, please buy a baby hair barette or clip. women and girls over seven or eight, please buy a child’s hair barette or clip. Now clip it to the longest part of your hair. Lean in every direction and shake your head. Does it stay in? Good. Take it out now. If it falls out, your hair is too short. Do not cut it so short again.
Men: If you have hair past your jawline, please condition and comb it often. If you have hair past your shoulder blades, do not wear it in a bun.
Do not stuff your hair into a Rasta hat. If you do not have curls tighter than 1/4 in. diameter, you are not growing dreadlocks, you are growing a mat and you have to cut it off and comb your hair when it grows out. Dreadlocks are a statement based on the natural beauty of tightly curled hair and you can’t celebrate it if you don’t have it.
If your hair thunks when you tap it with your fingernail it is too hard. Wash it out and comb it.
Thank you.

Itwo skin tight spaghetti strap tank tops (you know one over the other with the bottom one longer than the top one) and bra straps showing. This is a look that needs to go…
I agree. Layering of two or more of anything made of T-shirt jersey or other thin knit material.

At this point, I’d welcome the return of the high-waisted 80’s pants. I’m sooo tired of seeing crack. 😃

Let’s see, what fashions ought to get booted?
  • I HATE that every pair of jeans I try on has spandex in the material, with the singular exception of jeans from The Gap. I try to buy jeans at Kohls, Old Navy, and even Macy’s, but every pair I pick up has awkward stretch in it. I don’t have much of a tummy, but pants with spandex make things bulge where they shouldn’t, and never give you that comfy “broken-in” jeans feeling. DH runs and hides when I tell him that I need to go shopping for jeans…it’s THAT bad.
  • Total agreement on the Uggs and Crocs. They HAVE to go. Though living in an area that gets a hefty amount of lake-effect snow, SOMEONE needs to make some attractive flat boots that I can wear with my work clothes. PLEASE!
  • Leggings and a short sweater dress. Ick. Put on some pants!
  • T-Shirts made for women with words right across the chest. Either go above the chest near the neckline, stick something in the corner, or write what you have to say on the back. My work got some shirts made that say “I work for the customer.” That sentence hits RIGHT across my chest…Um, hello, my customers are reading my chest all day!
  • Skinny jeans. They don’t fit anybody!
  • Resurrecting the hippy-dippy-flowy-flower child look, with earth tones and rustic looking fabric, peasant tops, puffy sleeves. Not very wear-able.
  • Animal prints. They go out and them come back occasionally…Blech. Fur can go to, especially faux fur as the trim on a winter coat’s hood.
…hmmm, I’ll keep thinking!

I work on a college campus and I see some sights:
  1. Really really short skirts worn with a backpack lead to the skirt riding WAY up. It can be embarrassing, especially if you are wearing thong underwear.
  2. Guys, get some pants that FIT!!! Walking around all splaylegged or with your hand permanently attached to your crotch is ugly.
  3. Hoodies. I like them, I have several myself. But there is a time and place for them. Take them off inside, please.
  4. Hang up the phone!!! Or at least please hang it up when you come up to my desk, and don’t get into a screaming fight with your boyfriend out in the lobby near my office. I really don’t want to hear you.
  5. Folks, it’s cold outside. Thong sandals are not really appropriate for that kind of weather.
  6. Our campus is called The Hill. Ladies, you have only a certain amount of time to get between classes. Trying to go downhill in 4 inch stilettoes is not wise. Can you say broken ankle?

:rotfl: This is why I keep myself sequestered on the med campus, and only venture onto main campus if it’s unavoidable. I still haven’t been able to shake the mental image (from a sighting 2 years ago) of a young undergrad attempting to hike up the hill on State Street on a cold (15 F) and icy morning, wearing a miniskirt, stiletto heels, barelegged otherwise, and one of those short puffer coats with the huge fur hood, hanging open over her low-cut shirt. I couldn’t tell if she was heading to class or coming off of the night shift at a strip club, and I also couldn’t figure out why she didn’t have the good sense to slap on a pair of those ubiquitous leggings that all the other girls were wearing as pants substitutes.

I thought we wore some ridiculous stuff when I was an undergrad in the late '90s. We were downright tame and weather-appropriate back then. 🤷

No kidding. I still have a tendency to let my long underwear show at my ankles (Lands’ End makes crops now!) and wear socks instead of hose, but sheesh! I have real trouble understanding the appeal of fashion that is so uncomfortable/inconvenient

Yeah. I think I spent the entire 96-97 winter in giant J. Crew sweaters, the entire 97-98 winter in a red polar fleece pullover, all the while wearing old jeans and Doc Martens with thick, ugly socks. At least my underwear was covered.
