The priest will be out next week to bless our little house.

What is the procedure for this? How does it typically go and how long does it last?

It’s rather simple. The priest says some short prayers, typically at the front door, then goes throughout the house sprinkling Holy Water.

Here is a link:
sanctamissa.org/en/resources/books-1962/rituale-romanum/48-blessings-for-special-days-and-feasts.html

You’ll have to scroll down for the blessing of a home. There is one for the Epiphany season and another for the Easter season (with an explanatory note not to limit it to the Easter season only).

You’ll need to be prepared to give typical responses like “Amen” and “And with your spirit” etc. There might be other responses and verses—these are going to depend on exactly which blessing the priest chooses (there are several options). If it’s something that’s not familiar to you (like a psalm that goes back and forth in verses) the priest will probably just show you the book at the time and let you follow along.

The link will give you an idea of what he will do, but again it’s going to depend on exactly which blessing he uses.

And its a nice gesture to cook a little supper or something for the priest or deacon, maybe offer him some gas money. 🙂

I had my house Blessed once, and what happiness first the priest comes,in, and prays at each room ,than sprays the room with the Holy water and we follow and pray with him, then at the end he prays, and blesses us ,and then we thank him,for coming too Bless our home. It is a wonderful feeling after it Blessed.,it also stop EVIL from entering our home, and protects us from those who wish to do harm to us.

I love house blessings, great info above there.

We always do a dinner first with the priests.

Like all things Church related, be not afraid, the priest knows what to do and will bring what is necessary.

Just invite and be at peace!

I actually asked my former parish priest if he could bless our house and he either said he doesn’t do that or its not done anymore. It was about a year ago, I don’t remember exactly. He said either the Deacon could do it or I could do it myself. 🤷 I’m now at another parish. Haven’t asked my new parish priest if he does that though.

I’m very sorry to hear that.

I hope your current priest will be willing to fulfill his pastoral responsibility.
