and that chalice? What emotions circulate through your mind?

In general I am struck on two levels. Firstly at the elevation I am reminded to lift up all who have asked for my prayers, my family, friends, those in difficult situations etc, Secondly, at the precise moment of the elevation I bow my head and pray with my heart (my Lord and my God) because at that moment more than any other I am aware of my own nothingness before God almighty and my awareness that in a short time I am asking God into my heart, my life in communion. That is the big WOW of my day.

I agree, thats the big wow of my day.

Also at this time if there is a desperate need in your life and you need intercession. This is the time to ask for the needed help.

Eternal Father, I offer you the Body and Blood, Soul and Divinity of your dearly beloved Son our Lord Jesus Christ, for the conversion of poor sinners, the salvation of the dying, for all the poor souls in Purgatory, and in reparation for sin. Amen.

Two very specific prayers, because they’re in the EF missalette and I see no reason to depart from them in the OF: at the elevation of the host, echoing St. Thomas, 'My Lord and my God, Amen"; at the elevation of the chalice, “Remember me, O Lord, whom thou hast redeemed through thy most precious blood.” I don’t know where these prayers came from, but I can’t improve on them, so I’m sticking with them.

This is Jesus,

The Lamb of God

who takes away the sin of the world!

I don’t think it could be called emotion any more, nor does it actively involve the mind any more. It is simply intimate presence, my Beloved has come into the room. He is here.

I gaze at the elevated host/chalice and pray, “My Lord and my God.”

Then I bow my head and pray, “We adore you, O Christ, and we praise you, because by your holy cross you have redeemed the world.”

I like SciFi. Bear with me. In every SciFi series ever done, there needs to be a way to get from one point to another in space and time much faster than light. Even traveling through time is common. Even cooler are transport means that actually twist the space/time continuum.

Image a piece of paper as a model for a 2D world. If a 2D person wanted to travel from one point to another, he simply moves slowly along the paper surface until he arrives at the destination. OR he uses a hi tech device to fold the paper until the two points are in contact and simply moves from one point to the other without traveling in between.

I think the Eucharist is like that. God warps all of time and space such that we are genuinely present AT the very moment of THE sacrifice at Calvary. When the host is elevated, a wormhole opens through space and time and we are genuinely and actually present at that single moment in history. We aren’t remembering, we are THERE when Christ suffers His agony on our behalf.

When that hits you full force, I dare to not to get wet eyes.

Thank you all for your replies. I felt that we needed a thread like this.

I for one at that grand moment bow my head and in the lowest voice I say ‘My Lord, and My God!’ expressing how unworthy I am of him, but by the sacrifice of Christ I am made new again. When the Priests lifts up that Chalice, I become full aware that I have been redeemed by the blood of my Saviour and Creator, I then say "My Jesus, Mercy!’ In the overall sense I pray that many souls in Purgatory may be redeemed, and that my family may further more believe and love him.

I don’t sound want like some sort of priss, but I am so out of my head and deep into my (and His) heart at that point that I just sort of kneel there and swoon.

This coming from a three-hundred-pound six-foot-one man who looks more like a big compost heap than a little flower…

But now the truth is out. There ya have it.

Peace

John 12:32: “And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men to Myself.”

I agree, this is an excellent thread. It has already encouraged my spirit this morning and reminded me of the adorable Lord Jesus Christ. Thank you for posting this thread.

Jesus,I love you

Jesus,I trust in you

Lamb of God,have mercy on us

The same as is suggested by the 1962 Missal, “My Lord, and my God”.

Sometimes, it gives me goosebumps.

At the elevation of the host, I pray, “Lord, take MY body. Use me however You see fit.”

At the elevation of the Cup, I pray, “Lord Jesus Christ, have mercy on me, a sinner.”

“My Lord and My God” “You are here, you have come to us.” “How much you love us that you come to meet us and be with us.” “What a miracle.” “What amazing love that you would come to us.”

Awestruck.

But at last Mass, I was like this: 😃 . The Monsignor took time out of Mass (not sure if he was allowed to though) before consecrating the Gifts to mention that the bread and wine literally become the Body and Blood of Christ. Mass was longer because of this, but I didn’t care because this was an important point.
