I’m curious what wedding Gospels have you all used?

My girlfriend and I have discussed what Gospel we would like to use at our wedding and we both have a very personal and mutual connection to John 13:34 and we would like the Gospel to include this. We also really like John 13:1-15 which is used on Holy Thursday.

What did you all use? 🙂

Bonus: what were the 1st and 2nd readings?

1Corinthians 13 : 1-13
That is the one I remember right now.
I don’t have the tape with me( cassette times!)

I can look up what we used tomorrow, but I do know that we were not given free reign over what readings we were to use. We met with the priest and he gave us 2 choices for each reading, and that’s what we picked from.

Someone else here might be able to tell you if that is the way it is done elsewhere.

I had a dispensation from canonical form and the minister let me edit the order of ceremony to my heart’s content. I don’t remember the specific readings now… but I know I copied and pasted the Anglican Use (Catholic) vows in because they resonated with me with the old school elevated English… but it backfired because my ESL bride got a little tongue tied :P.

I recall nothing of our ceremony beyond the fact that I couldn’t get my husband’s ring on his finger. I honestly don’t remember readings, and I know we didn’t choose any so if there were readings, Fr. chose them.

At our church they had a book with readings that couples were supposed to select from. There were quite a few selections and I didn’t see any need to look outside those. I think it was the same or much the same selections as these:

I know we had Corinthians 12:31–13:8a (“Love is patient, love is kind”) for one of our readings.
For the Gospel I don’t totally remember but I think we had the Wedding at Cana story. Can’t imagine picking anything else to use at a wedding.

I can’t recall anything other than that except that we definitely did NOT have any readings involving the Song of Songs or “virtuous wives” as both of those are not my favorite Scriptural concepts. Or anything about “bodies” because that would have embarrassed me greatly.

I would suggest speaking with your priest before you get all enamored of some reading or other because some priests may want couples to choose from the fixed group of reading selections.

Mark 10:6-9, chosen among several options given by the parish. It had to be one of these options.

No bonus for me: I have little hope of telling you what the first and second readings were unless I find either the hardcopy I’d saved of the program (which is not where I thought I had put it 😬) or the computer file I printed it from. The wedding was nearly twenty years ago.

My enduring memory of our ceremony was my dad getting tangled up in my nine-foot-long veil and nearly ripping my head off 😂
