OK, then we agree.Simply put…a government should provide whatever the governed (people) want it to provide.

Yes, we doOK, then we agree.
If charity alone is not the answer…what would you do to help that poor woman? Our public institutions should be at the forefront of helping the poor.
It is unacceptable that we have working people who lack access to health care, vocational training, food, water, shelter, hygiene facilities, etc. My local church actually hosted a public assembly where a poor woman who worked two jobs cried at the podium for lack of a safe environment for her kids.
Basic charity alone is not the answer. We are all in this together, as the Bible says:
“Rick people who see a brother or sister in need, yet close their hearts against them, cannot claim that they love God.” (1 John 3:17)
People want lots, but generally don’t want the tax imposts required to pay for it. How often does the U S balance its budget?Simply put…a government should provide whatever the governed (people) want it to provide.
It needs to make these things possible for the citizens. It serves the people. What is the general Catholic view of what government should provide? For example, general protection is obvious, but health care? schooling? food stamps? housing for poor? etc.
Also, how does one get to that conclusion?
