Luke 8:19-21…someone said to Jesus, “your mother and brothers are standing outside and want to see you”. Jesus said to them all “my mother and brothers are those who hear the word of God and obey it”.
Why did Jesus speak like that of his Mother, Mary? we all know that Mary obeyed the word of God (she bore Christ didn’t she?) or was he telling people to follow Mary’s example?
It sounds to me like he didn’t care, because the scriptures didn’t say whether he later went to meet them or not, even if he did, why the statement?
Was he referring to the last time Mary and Joseph had gone looking for him, when he was 12 yrs, and he had told them that he was in his Father’s house. and yet Mary hadn’t “obeyed” the word and still searched for him?
This passage is unclear and I would really like some light shed on it. thanks.
