What happened to DC Comics?

I’m new here so forgive me if this thread is in the wrong spot. Any ways I am a casual comic book reader and cant help but notice whats been going on in dc comics. Some chaacters are gay( like alan scott the old green latern), Others are lesbian(batwoman), and even bisexual(one of the creators confirmed constantine is bisexual). I am not sure if they have always been that and not to mention the over-sexualized(little to no clothing) of the super-heroines. Just wanna know people’s thought on this. Also, looking forward to the new dc comic movies?

P.S who is the character inbewteen red tornado and zattana and the character inbewteen fire and firehawk in the first image?

true but homosexuality is wrong and I feel like the writers did this to be “politically correct”

Are the characters having illicit sex or are there allusions to it? If not, then it isn’t wrong. Sexual activity outside of marriage is wrong; simply being gay or lesbian is not.

In many of the comics the sexual actions of both hetero and homosexual characters are shown, not graphically of course, but heavily alluded to. The lesbian characters probably get it the worst, about the only keeping some of it from being declared pornography are conveniently placed bits of cloth >_>

As for what happened to DC? Nothing much. DC and Marvel both have always tried to stay in public favor. A lot of the time this has been a positive thing. Unfortunately, they don’t distinguish between what is genuinely good for society, and what is bad for it; they just attach themselves to whatever “social justice” movement is popular at the time. Right now, “gay rights” is a big thing, and so they’re pandering to activists to keep their readership up.
 
Actor Chris Evans, who has played Captain America, is a supporter of the homosexual agenda. A brother of his is openly gay.
 
I don’t know much about the marvel universe as I don’t read those comics. however some of the characters in question almost married but didn’t probably just to extend the relationship for the writers to earn a bit more for more cash. I feel like they are pushing an agenda like most of the media these days
 
Also even though they didnt have sex, same sex marriage is still wrong.
 
DC stinks – but’s that’s nothing new, because everyone knows Marvel Comics are way better anyway, and always have been.🙂
 
Marvel is just as guilty as dc in this department. I still prefer to read dc comics and just avoid the characters in question. I hate the new 52 and what changes it made to the characters.
 
Off the top of my head, I would say that what happened is that comics are no longer intended for children and therefore “pushing the envelope” and exploring “adult themes” as cable television does so relentlessly have become acceptable and even reliable ways of attracting readers and one of those adult themes is aberrant sexuality.

I didn’t grow up reading comic books (or doing a lot of mainstream stuff; I was pretty sheltered) so I don’t know everything about the hobby. I also haven’t seen how these characters are “coming out” and how their orientation is portrayed.

And when you say “children” what age are you talking about? Like adult humor in animated movies I imagine the sexual orientation goes over their heads. You are concerned about the message being sent, as am I, but I have don’t have a problem with a regular superhero character being gay. There are going to be young people who are gay so why not let them have their hero, not some special character that disappears after an issue but a regular character that just happens to be gay.

I’d rather they skip the marriage stuff. How often do comic book characters get married anyway? Because if they typically don’t then gay characters shouldn’t be either. Also, how many characters are gay? I think it’s silly to have so many gay characters it might as well be a gay comic. I don’t care which side one falls on - ham handed agendas are annoying.

Isn’t that typical of most female characters? How many writers and illustrators of mainstream comic books and video games are women? From my vantage point, the bodies of women are not just unrealistic (it is a comic, so…🤷) but also fetishized.

By the way what are some titles that feature the things you described?
 
They are all from the new 52 launch which rebooted the whole dc universe for modern audiences. I believe the titles are Earth 2, Batwoman, and John Constantine. however it should be noted that these characters often cross into other comics.
 
Actually now I remember at least one lesbian marriage. It was in Injustice Gods among us year 2 issue 16 where it shown that Batwoman and Montoya(yes the the girl detective in Batman TAS) are married together before going to battle.

When I say children, I mean ages 7 to 13 approximately. This used to be the core audience for superhero comics in the classic phase of American modernism. Now those kids don’t read comic books, which are hard to find anyway and too expensive, and the core audience is adult males ages 25 to 45. Much as with baseball cards and video games, what used to be considered children’s pastimes in the classic phase of the culture have become acceptable hobbies for adult men.
 
I enjoyed some of their Sgt. Rock types of comics, war comics. The Flash is a good comic, more or less. It’s not the same thing as when one could buy a comic for less than a dollar, less than a half-dollar and they were entertaining, now if you pay $4 for a comic, the artwork may be good but I don’t think the story-telling is very good.

I read all of the brands of comics, Marvel is probably the most popular brand but I didn’t care for that, I enjoyed even Charlton, the kid’s comic company Harvey Comics (Richie Rich, Casper the friendly ghost, etc.). Those children’s comics were actually probably pretty good, Little Audrey and so on.
