What Happened to Fr. John Corapi?

My father is a devout Roman Catholic and was a big follower of Fr. Corapi on EWTN. All at once he was no longer on his regular program slot. I must admit that although I didn’t agree with much of what he preached, I did enjoy listening to him. What happened to him?
 
The situation is very sad. There are several other threads about this, but to summarize very briefly, Fr. Corapi voluntarily left the priesthood after apparently seriously credible (but as of yet unproven) allegations came to light that he was abusing drugs and alcohol, involved in illicit sexual relations including prostitutes, and possessed in excess of $1 million dollars in money, goods, and property in violation of his vows.

The situation is evolving constantly and there is still a lot we do not know.
 
I was going to go and read the other threads, but they were multiple pages long. Thanks for posting this.

So is there anything current on Father Corapi? Has the Order done anything? Is he going to be laicized?

No one really knows where this is headed, other than the fact that John Corapi will no longer be acting as a spiritual leader. He lost that standing when he resigned against his prelates desires. Even if he isn’t guilty of wrong doing as accused, he did do wrong in ignoring his promise to obey. We wish him well, but we need to pray for him and all priests struggling with pride. Humility is the beginning of wisdom.

Actually, he lost that standing on Ash Wed. when he was placed on admistrative leave. He was to remain suspended until the investigation was completed, then he effectively blocked the investigation by filing a lawsuit for libel against his accuser. The canon law states that witnesses cannot be pressured or coerced in any way. He was asked to withdraw the lawsuit and refused. He also had non-disclosure agreement with other key witnesses that also worked at Santa Cruz Media, which he would not lift,either.

He also has amassed an embarassing amount of personal property and has been selling the gospel for profit through his DVD’s and CD;s.
 
Nothing mysterious it’s something we probably witnessed more times than we can keep track up. Success, lack of supervision, mammon and pride…I guess he became a celebrity.

I suppose there must be a patron saint for celebrities, those in the public eye that want to do the right thing but may be tempted otherwise to overindulge and reject the good counsel of their close friends.

I think that only the Holy Spirit could change this situation.
 
The lastest on Corapi as of 7/9/ can be seen on the blog the Deacon or The Advent. He put out a video wearing a Harley Davidson jacket and dungarees stating he is moving on. His Order released a statement a couple of days ago stating that they had conducted an investigation with trained experienced professional investigaters and found out there:gopray2: were numerous problems including sexting several woman in Montana, affairs with prostitutes etc.
Of course with him suing the accuser and stopping the investigation the Order wanted to clarify it`s findings and also stated that Corapi owned over a million dollars in realestate and a boat ramp numerous luxury autos and a motorcycle which was against his vow of poverty and according to SOLT he was requested some time ago to return to his community and he
refused. The Order felt it had to release a statement since Corapi was hurling charges at the
Bishop and the Order. According to Corapi and the Order he has resigned and also left the
priesthood to pursue his corporate interests. This was all made public by Corapi and there has been almost daily updates on the situation. Sadly it is time to move on, as he states in his video and let God sort it all out and pray for all those involved and hope they have learned that
it is not the messenger but the message that matters and above all pray for Corapi.😦

That is just what is so confusing and distressing. He was called upon by SOLT to come live in community, and suffer his suspension while supported by them. This basically means he would live a private and contempletive life, rather than putting himself out as a public figure. He could be faithful to his promises to the community to be obedient, chaste, and live in poverty while setting an example for the flock.

He could have “moved on” in obedience to his SOLT superior, and achieved a more private life without all this public scandal and disarray. 🤷
 
There is much on his new website as well as his old one… What bothers me about it all, mostly, is the (IMO) unchristian way he is commenting on the situation and the accusers.

To paraphrase his email to those that subscribe, he believes it is God’s will for him to preach… so preach he must. Being quiet may be against the church’s orders but he sincerely believes he is doing God’s will.

This episode comes as a cold slap in the face. For many of us, Fr Corapi was the voice and face of the Church. And now? So many contradictions. Nhe maintains his love of the Curch, yet has no faith in her abiliy to mete out true justice.

I always felt strengthened and revitalized after listening to his radio sermons because he spoke with the voice of the Catholic Church. And now, how can I listen to a man who has thrown away the collar and the habit to preach – what?

The Church isn’t perfect, we all know this as it is composed of us broken and wounded souls. But it is still the body and bride of Christ. Father Corapi was one of the main teachers who instillef this in me.

I pray that he returns to his order (SOLT) and abandons this bizarre journey of his. If I considered him to be a bad priest, I would have concurred with his decision to leave the priesthood. But this is not the case. I feel that he has been instrumental in bringing lost souls back home. I only wish that he’d return home himself. I really love the man as do many of us. It is devastating to see this happen.
 
I find it interesting that the OP chose to put this in the “Non-Catholic Religions” forum. (I’m not trying to be snarky or snide or anything like that; I just thought it was interesting to find this thread in this forum.)

Yeah I struggle to listen to him too. But what he said in those tapes are TRUTH. His actions do not change that it is TRUTH. I have to constantly tell myself, this is TRUTH and try not to listen to him colored thourgh the lens that I know him now.

Remember St. Peter, Prince of the Apostles, and our First Pope. How he denied our Lord Jesus Christ three times and how bleak the situtaion looked and how he must have felt. And look at what forgiveness and reconcililation can do. I pray that Father Corapi may find that same forgiveness and reconcililiation.
