The scripture tells us that she went to live with John to whom Jesus had entrusted her. She lived with John and eventually died at Ephesus, if memory serves. Her death would have predated John’s exile to Patmos. As Catholic tradition tells us she was assumed bodily into heaven. This claim is made largely on the fact that we have records or traditions of many of the burial places of the apostles and other early saints, yet no such tradition for a tomb of Mary exists.

I think her dormition occurred around the age of 72. If Mary was 13-15 years old when Jesus was born, that would place her dormition around 56AD or so.

We must believe Mary was assumed but we are free to believe if she died or did not die first.
I believe there is enough testimony and tradition to show she died first.

I wish the dormition had been included in the dogma of the assumption, but then again those decisions are made by men far wiser then I could ever hope to be, and they have the guidenec of the Holy Spirit. But still it would be nice if it ws defined.

The Apostolic Constitution on Mary’s Assumption teaches that she died and was raised prior to her Assumption. Only her Assumption is infallibly defined, but the teaching that she died and raised at least falls under the ordinary Magisterium.

Post-Pentecostal Life of Mary, you should find your answer (or at least as close to a definitive answer on the subject as you can get!)Could you tell me please what happened to Jesus mother Mary after the Crucifixion.

Personally, I believe it was important to us that Mary (although free from Original Sin would not normally have) died an earthly death. We are all promised resurrection on the Last Day, when our souls will be re-united with our bodies in their Glorified Form (what ever that may be). Jesus the Christ did this but He is God and of course He can and did do it. Mary, on the other hand, is a created being like us (except with sin). By taking Mary to heaven in a Glorified State (which is completely fitting for the Mother of God) God is showing us what we can also expect as well.
Our Blessed Mother Mary is now Fully alive in heaven interceding on our behalf.
