What happened to the Northern Kingdom of Israel during the Babylonian Exile?

Hi! I’m Leo for the Philippines. I just want to ask if what happened to israel during the Babylonian Exile? It was said on the Sacred Scriptures that the Kingdom of Judah were invaded by King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon and he deported the Jews to babylon. What happened to Israel that was captured by Assyria?

Hi Leo, and welcome to CAF,

The Northern Kingdom of Israel remained dispersed in the various lands after their capture and exile by the Assyrians. Other people (captured by the Assyrians) were brought in to populate the territory of Israel. They became known as the Samaritans (religion was a mixture of Judaism and pagan). See 2 Kings 17 24-41 The Northern tribes of Israel never returned to become a nation again - whereas the two tribes of the Souther Kingdom did.

The ten tribes of the Northern Kingdom of Israel that were dispersed are sometimes referred to as the “lost tribes of Israel”.

Th Assyrians invaded and conquered the Northern Kingdom something like 70 years before the Babylonians conquered the Southern Kingdom.

Those in the Northern kingdom, which had fallen far away from the Tru Jewish faith and in deeply involved in idolatry, was assimilated into the Assyrians and essentially ceased to be an ethnically distinct people. Hence the phrase, the “The Lost Tribes” of Israel.

As for Native American, How do you explain the fact that in New Mexico there is a 3000 year old “copy” of the ten Commandments carved into rock written in the Hebrew.
or the fact that Hebrew coins from the first temple period were found in the Tennessee valley?

These are assertions presented without evidence. Let’s see evidence from independent reputable sources. No reputable source that I know of has ever found a single piece of archeological proof of such a thing. In fact, some reputable sources have preprinted denials of things like this because so many people contact them to confirm the rumors.

It is fairly easy to do genetic tests today to determine the origins of people - there is not one drop of evidence from genetic testing to back up these claims either.

The Northern kingdom was destroyed and the people scattered about 100 years before the first coins were used anywhere on the planet.

Am I correct in assuming that they had broken away from the Jews in the South who remained aligned with the Jerusalem Temple?

What if anything did they do in regards to temple worship and sacrifice?
My understanding is that the Sacrifice had to be made at the temple in Jerusalem.

Solomon’s sons, Jeroboam and Rehoboam, had a fight after Solomon’s death. Jeroboam led the 10 tribes to the north, leaving behind the tribes of Judah and Benjamin behind in the south with Rehoboam. Because the temple was in the south, and in order to dissuade travel into Judah, Jeroboam erected two substitute worship sites, ushering in a major period of idol worship.

Two biblical sources are the books of 1 and 2 Kings and 1 and 2 Chronicles.

Look into the Great Adventure, Bible Time Line study series is an awesome study series. Of course it covers all of Bible History, but it does cover the Northern and Southern kingdoms in a fairly detailed manner.

I may be mistaken, but I think the entire series was recently granted and imprimatur.

The Bible? Who would have thought of that as a potential source? I am Catholic after all

The Great Adventures series is supposed to be very good and when I become more affluent I will be able to purchase them.

Right now I was hoping for a single introductory reputable source for under $30 USD.
