I heard that today, the Church will not be celebrating the Marian holiday. This is disappointing. Is it too hard for Catholics to go to Mass two days in a row? It seems the second time this year. Additionally, California does not celebrate it at all (I’m here visting).

Dear Diamond,

This year the Solemnity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of God will not be celebrated as a holy day of obligation in the United States. But it IS being celebrated—even here in California.

I agree that it wouldn’t kill anybody to have to attend Mass two days in a row and that honoring Our Lady is far more important than giving attention to the various secular New Years activities. Write your bishop!
