Good…so that means Ratzinger will be there and possibly get elected…God Forbid anything happen to JPII…I think Ratzinger would probably be the best and most competent person for his successor.
ditto:thumbsup:
at any rate he will be there - God willing

Don’t get your hopes up, have you ever heard the saying “A cardinal can walk into the conclave the future Pope, and walk out a cardinal”?
I think that goes, “a Cardinal walking in the conclave hoping to be a pope, walks out a cardinal.”

At first it is 2/3 majority vote.

After 30 unsuccessful elections, it goes down to a simple majority vote (50% + 1).
I think I was correct originally…
To be elected Pope, one Cardinal must receive more than two-thirds of the votes. Except that if 30 elections have taken place without any one Cardinal being elected Pope, then the Cardinals may then elect by simple majority.

Does anyone know how many of the voting Cardinals are Italian?

Just curious.

Actually it would be interesting to get the stats on all of the Cardinals.

Most of the Saint Popes were defacto canonized by Martyrdom. There are very few by Tribunal, as at least 2 certifiable miracles were required. Really hard to come by. I’ve only done 1 miracle myself, and I can tell you, IT’S TOUGH!
I agree!

If it is the Will of God to call the Holy Father to Himself, I would consider the election of HE Card. Ratzinger to be a good thing. But I guess I hope I would consider the election of anyone the Holy Spirit chose to be a good thing. Duspiro, have you seen the link to the Ratzinger fan club? You can actually buy a T-Shirt!

His body will be placed in three caskets; one of cedar, one of lead, and one of pine.
Forgive my ignorance, but is there a special meaning in the material of each casket? If so, what is the significance?

If I’m not mistaken, JPII changed it to 50%+1 from the 1st vote… Any Cardinal <80 yrs old votes.
None are permitted to divulge anything that went on in the Conclave under excommunication…unless a criminal event took place like a murder…God forbid.

Actually, tonight on EWTN, The World Over, it was mentioned that the majority vote, if the conclave can’t come up with a clear Pope after 32 tries, will vote with a 67%1 majority.

I’d keep yourself tuned to EWTN either radio or tv for more updates.

So is it 30, 32, or 33? We’ll find out soon enough. 😉

The inner casket of cypress represents that he is still a common man.

The next casket of lead bears his name, the date of his pontificate and copies of all his important documents. It also contains his brokes seal.

The last outer coffin is witnessed only by his household and family before it is lowered in the crypt.

I bought a neat coffee table book years ago called “The Church Visible” by James Charles Noonan, Jr. I paid next to nothing for it off the discount table, but it has a wealth of information on the workings of the Vatican.
