In addition to the standard liturgy, there is a distribution of blessed ashes to the congregants. Ministers draw a cross on each person’s forehead with the ashes, saying, “Remember, man, that you are dust and to dust you shall return.”
Although you cannot yet receive Communion, you are welcome to attend an Ash Wednesday Mass. Because the blessed ashes are a sacramental, not a sacrament, you are also welcome to receive the ashes.
