I have not been to one. I would like a narrative of the events that take place during an ordination from someone who’s seen one or from someone who knows what goes on in one.

Thanks.

We had two men in our diocese ordained to the priesthood last June. If you ever have a chance to go to an ordination Mass, I highly recommend it. There is nothing like watching young men vow to devote their lives completely to God to really invigorate your spiritual life.

As for what happens, here is a good link that describes the ordination rite to the priesthood. There are differences for ordination to the deaconate and to the episcopate. Perhaps a few of the deacons on this site can describe their ordination Masses from personal experience.

There is so much to say. Maybe other deacons will contribute some details. One of the big differences that you will find in a deacon ordination is that just the bishop places hands on the candidate and calls down the Holy Spirit upon him. In the ordination to the priesthood, after the bishop places hands on the transitional deacon, all of the priests present do the same. Most of the priests from the diocese attend, thus there is a big crowd on the altar. The permanent deacon ordination signifies that the permanent deacon is not part of the brotherhood of the priests, but rather has been chosen by the bishop for a special ministry of service to the diocese.

May God bless you for your interest. Perhaps someday you may be able to attend an ordination or be part of one.

Oh, it would be a great blessing if I could attend one. Who knows, I may as well be a deacon one day. I have the link to the Ordination rite up. Thanks.

The reason I ask is because I am attempting to write a piece of fictional literature and I am trying my best to conform it with what we have in the Church. Kind of like how Tolkien wrote Lord of the Rings except not fantasy. I’ve grown sick and tired of literature that attack my faith (no thanks to Mr. Brown), I figured perhaps it’s time to come up with my own with proper research.
