My son was recently divorced but has started seeing his ex wife again. If they decide to re-marry, are their Catholic vows still upheld or do they need special permission to live as a married couple again?
As far as the Catholic Church is concerned, they are still married to each other because the state does not have the power to dissolve a valid marriage. But they would to be civilly marry in order for their marriage to again be recognized by the state for legal matters. This could be simply done in a judge’s office.
