I got a deferred penance on Thursday from confession, wjich was to meditate on the gospel for easter sunday. if I remember correctly, the priest said it to do it sometime during the triduum and also to listen attentively to the gospel at mass. I just don’t remember if he told me ti meditate on it before mass or after.

I waited because it didn’t seem fitting to do it on good Friday of holy Saturday but I forgot to do it before mass so I just did it now.

I’m probably just being scrupulous right?

is it a new sin if you forget to do a penance or don’t do it exactly the right way?

Forgetting a penance is not a sin.

It would be highly unusual for a confessor to so impose a penance that he prescribed how you had to accomplish it with details of that magnitude, as a condition of the penance…in other words, we give a penance but we do not impose binding conditions on when, where and how the penance must be accomplished.

You have certainly fulfilled the substance of the penance. If your anxiety does not subside, mention the matter the next time you go to confession.

It’s not a sin to forget your penance, so you’re fine.
