What happens to Atheists after death?

What happens to Atheists after death?



Is it simply turning off the light switch? If so, where is the comfort in that?
 
When men die their bodies become corpses and they live on as spirits, and God judges them on their love. If they die in mortal sin, they go to Hell. If not, they go to Heaven, though if they die in venial sin than they are purified before seeing God face-to-face. At the resurrection, they receive their bodies again, and so they become human persons again.

I didn’t see the part where they were required to ask for forgiveness, believe in Jesus and the Holy Trinity…and so on…any comments?

Man is not judged on belief but on love.

As for forgiveness: Pray for sinners.
 
The cease being part of the Kindred of the Land and join the Kindred of the Sea. Chances are some God or Goddess or Spirit in there ancestral lines will take them in.

I voted “nothing”, but of course, not being dead, I can’t say for sure. Why is “I don’t know” not one of the options?

It’s just a fact. Facts are not obliged to be comforting. Instead of trying to live as if there is life after death, I try to live as if there is life before death. 😉
 
Unknown. God is Mercy. We trust in the mercy of God and it is not our place to judge.

As a wise man told me once: We know there is a hell, we do not know if anyone is there.

Unless anyone here has actually died and then come back to life then no one here actually know. Some of us don’t need the security blanket that is heaven. Not that anyone of us want to die but we’ll find out when it happens.
 
Simplistic, generalized multiple choice question with simplistic, generalized options evokes a silly answer:

They turn into unicorns.
 
It depends on who you ask. If you ask atheists, there seems to be two categories of answers. The first group thinks that you return to nothingness, that everything just goes black and you exist no more. The second group thinks that some part of you (like your energy) gets absorbed back into the universe (I think Einstein fell into this group).

As Catholics, we know better. When an atheist dies they are immediately placed before God for particular judgment (as we all will be). What happens then is decided by God on a case-by-case basis.

I don’t presume to speak for God and I in no way have a direct say in anyones judgment (hold your appreciative sighs :p), but I am of the opinion that most if not all atheists will be unfortunately lost to hell. I think this will occur due to their intentional rejection of God.

Hey everyone,

The Atheists I know, can’t believe God can allow all this misery in this world and still believe He is merciful. The Atheists I know don’t believe in a god that doesn’t stop the killing of the innocents.

By looking at God this way, I would begin to doubt that He cares for us too, but I understand free will is free will and God’s love and plan far outway our ability to comprehend His desire to have us freely choose him.

So it can be easy to believe there is no God when you look at Him through the eyes of a human, who naturally has an overwhelmingly limited view. But, they don’t look at it this way because of our natural limitations, but because of all the misery and sadness .in this unsetlling world
 
I voted that they burn in Hell. This is especially true if they knew God at one point and then rejected Him to become an Atheist. Here is what the Church teaches about Atheism:

2123 "Many . . . of our contemporaries either do not at all perceive, or explicitly reject, this intimate and vital bond of man to God. Atheism must therefore be regarded as one of the most serious problems of our time."58

2126 Atheism is often based on a false conception of human autonomy, exaggerated to the point of refusing any dependence on God.63 Yet, "to acknowledge God is in no way to oppose the dignity of man, since such dignity is grounded and brought to perfection in God. . . . "64 "For the Church knows full well that her message is in harmony with the most secret desires of the human heart."65
