They get surprised. What happens to Atheists after death?
Unknown. God is Mercy. We trust in the mercy of God and it is not our place to judge.
As a wise man told me once: We know there is a hell, we do not know if anyone is there.
Atheists are yet another good reason for all of us to pray. Especially for the departed, and for those who are near to the end of their earthly lives.Ooooooh, somebody’ll take 'em in alright. It won’t be a sea fairy, though. :byzsoc: Prayers for conversions.
The OP asked what comfort could be found in the belief that death means the final end of one’s existence. Do you derive comfort from the thought that a significant proportion of all the people that have ever lived will “burn in Hell”?I voted that they burn in Hell. Frankly, I find great comfort in the idea that existence might simply end when the body turns of. Such a thought doesn’t scare me a bit. It beats the hell out of hell. The OP asked what comfort could be found in the belief that death means the final end of one’s existence. I disagree with your interpretation, yes. Here is what the Church teaches (the Catechism):For God so loved the world He gave His only begotten so that whoever BELIEVES in Him will not perish but have eternal life. ~John 3:16
Do you disagree?
27.27% so far, say that they will turn into unicorns…Simplistic, generalized multiple choice question with simplistic, generalized options evokes a silly answer:
They turn into unicorns.

What’s wrong with silly answers?
Sometimes silly questions and silly answers make for good reading…

I too believe Atheist will go to hell. Thus they will burn for all eternity. Not because God hates them but because they denied God and made themselves into gods.I voted that they burn in Hell. This is especially true if they knew God at one point and then rejected Him to become an Atheist. Here is what the Church teaches about Atheism:

I’d very much like to be a unicorn for a while. Or be a kami in a forest. Or walk the green halls of Landwidi at Vidars side.27.27% so far, say that they will turn into unicorns…

So, Atheists do view death, much like - turning a switch off. Where then, is the motivation to behave in life? Doesn’t this view create a self-centeredness?I’d very much like to be a unicorn for a while. Or be a kami in a forest. Or walk the green halls of Landwidi at Vidars side.
Though I expect that life after death feels pretty much the same as life before conception. As for the “comfort” I can’t remember anything bad about not being alive.
As Epicuros once wrote: “Death holds no horrors. As long as I am, it is not. And when it is, I am no longer.”
Frankly, this question infuriates me. It implies only the prospect of a life after death or a punishment after death makes people act in a social manner, and not things like a good education, intelligence, insight, honour, or conscience (wherever that comes from). So, Atheists do view death, much like - turning a switch off. Where then, is the motivation to behave in life? Doesn’t this view create a self-centeredness?
It’s properly human. We would all discover, if we could investigate your personal life very closely, that you act in precisely this same way.If someone needs a threat to not behave improperly or a reward to behave well, what does that say about that someone’s character?
What is your definition of “consequences”?Frankly, this question infuriates me…
